By DaCapo Primary Music. By Fred Plowright and Jane Cutler. Children,Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Instructional. Educational Method. 30 pages. DaCapo Primary Music #907292. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1318614).

The songs contained in this song book have been selected with many things in mind.

It is important for children to learn from the very beginning that they can sing in tune, that they can feel the rhythms and that they enjoy the subject material.

The songs chosen are old folk songs which have been re-worded to suit the children of today. The pictures tell the story and play an important role in helping to remember the song.

Children have small vocal ranges. This means that, when begin to sing, the best songs are those with only two or three notes. Gradually, we add songs with a wider note-span to extend the range of the childâ??s voice.

The rhythmic element of the songs has also been selected to help the children to sing accurately, to hear and understand the rhythmic patterns and eventually to identify them.

By DaCapo Primary Music. By Jane Cutler and Tracey Mathias. Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Educational Method. 94 pages. DaCapo Primary Music #904114. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1315388).

This Book Contains 68 songs for the instrumentalist.

This new edition of the DaCapo Complete Instrumentalist contains the same material as when first published in 2000, with one big change - many of the songs have been re-worded by our writer in residence, Tracey Mathias, to make them more engaging for very young children.

Singing is the foundation of all musical skills.

The book concentrates on the building of musicianship, is not clef specific and is therefore suitable for ANY instrument. It has been written on a reduced stave of 1, 2 or 3 lines in order to develop the skill of hearing the music from the page. The songs are classified by their note range, using solfa symbols and handsigns to identify relative pitches.

The collection starts with the  so  mi  interval and moves progressively to cover the complete major pentatonic scale. These intervals are easier to pitch accurately and you have the added advantage of working in canon. You may find another section more appropriate for the early stages of your instrument. A violinist or cellist may find the  so  do  section better as a starting point for example, whilst  la  so  might be more comfortable on a fife or recorder.

Each section starts with a list of ideas for very simple activities used to teach a song and establish it in the pupil's mind. There follows a variety of more complex and creative ideas which will enhance their musicianship. The activities are at three levels and we suggest that first you learn lots of the songs and then return to them later, tackling some of the more challenging suggestions.

Whilst every attempt has been made to research the source material, if you think we have not credited an original song please let us know.

We hope that you enjoy becoming a Complete Instrumentalist.

SKU: A0.1315421

By DaCapo Primary Music. By Carl Herring. Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Educational Method. 106 pages. DaCapo Primary Music #904157. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1315421).

This book contains 66 songs for the instrumentalist

The Complete Instrumentalist Two is the second book in a series for instrumental players, designed to help develop excellent musicianship.

It is written in stick notation* with an additional five line stave so that pupils or teachers can write out the music in whichever clef or key they choose to use. The songs are grouped by the number of notes in the piece and are mostly diatonic with a few pentatonic and modal pieces.

As with all of the DaCapo books it is left to the teachers to decide which section of the book to start with. Tempos and dynamic markings are also left to the teachers and pupils. We have suggested activities that can be applied to the entire repertoire and there are some extra ideas for specific pieces included on some pages, along with extra information for the pupil.

In many instances the songs have been reworded as it was felt that the subject matter or use of language was a barrier for some pupils. There are a few pieces where this may still be true but we have decided against rewording because of the cultural or historical aspect of the song and the opportunity to educate children beyond the music (e.g. spirituals).

Whilst every attempt has been made to source music in the public domain we would like to know if errors have been made.

We hope that you enjoy the next step to becoming a Complete Instrumentalist.

*stick notation
The purpose of stick notation is to build excellent inner hearing. You can't guess the intervals – they have to be known or learned via the solfa in order to hear the music from the page. Pupils can then translate and transfer this to their instrument and then onto a five-line stave.

• We show the rhythm only - with solfa syllables under the relevant note
• No note head used unless for a minim, dotted minim or semibreve
• The home note or tonic of each piece is indicated by an emboldened solfa syllable e.g. d r m f s shows do as the tonic • Where notes fall under or above the home note or tonic, they are indicated thus: s, d’
• A tick’( I ) has been used instead of bar lines.

SKU: A0.1319854

By DaCapo Primary Music. By Fred Plowright and Jane Cutler. Children,Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Instructional. Educational Method. 131 pages. DaCapo Primary Music #908413. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1319854).

Welcome to The Singing Clarinet which is one of the Singing Instrumentalist series of books written for beginners of all instruments.

The book gives a selection of entertaining repertoire and a thorough and complete musical experience from the very beginning.

It is presented in four sections, each designed to introduce a particular aspect of music making, whilst taking on board instrumental skills. We invite teachers to use The Singing Clarinet as they see fit, mixing and matching sections and songs to give a balanced and enjoyable combination of singing, playing an accompaniment, playing the melody, rhythm work, composition and playing duets.

The book enables pupils, teachers and parents to make a successful start with the chosen instrument.

When the book has been completed, The Singing Clarinetist will have developed a clear understanding of the function of notation, an ear that can hear tuning and two parts and also be able to enjoy more dissonance as well as pure harmony. The Singing Clarinetist should be well on the way to becoming a ‘Complete Instrumentalist’, which is, coincidentally, the name of the book that follows this one!
