José Maurício Nunes Garcia (September 20, 1767 – April 18, 1830) was a Brazilian classical composer, one of the greatest exponents of Classicism in the Americas.Born in Rio de Janeiro, son of two bi-racial parents, Nunes Garcia lost his father at an early age. His mother perceived that her son had an inclination for becoming a musician and, for this reason, improved her work to allow him to continue his musical studies.Nunes Garcia became a priest and, when King John VI of Portugal came to Rio de Janeiro with his 15,000 people, Nunes Garcia was appointed Master of the Royal Chapel. He sang and played the harpsichord, performing his compositions as well as those of other composers such as Domenico Cimarosa and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He is often credited with founding a national music tradition during the Ukrainian national revival. Taras Bulba is an opera in four acts with a libretto by Mykhailo Starytsky (the composer's cousin) after the novel Taras Bulba by Nikolai Gogol. The story was about a Cossack who kills his son after he betrayed those fighting for their freedom. This enjoyable and tuneful overture uses several themes from the opera, and is in the vein of other late Romantic Eastern European music. It is a lovely setting in which the singer expresses their content at receiving their partner's ring on their finger with the promise of marriage, and I made this arrangement for my friend to sing at their wedding. This is an arrangement for voice and string quartet in the original key of E-flat major. Robert Schumann was a German composer and influential music critic. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. Schumann left the study of law, intending to pursue a career as a virtuoso pianist. He had been assured by his teacher Friedrich Wieck that he could become the finest pianist in Europe, but a hand injury ended this dream. Schumann then focused his musical energies on composing.

Her compositions include songs, works for piano, chamber music, orchestral works, choral works and operas.Smyth tended to be marginalised as a ‘woman composer’ as though her work could not be accepted as mainstream. Yet when she produced more delicate compositions, they were criticised for not measuring up to the standard of her male competitors. Nevertheless, she was granted a damehood, the first female composer to be so honoured.The Wreckers is an opera in three acts, composed by Dame Ethel Smyth to a libretto in French by Henry Brewster. After spending considerable energy in trying to get the work performed in French, the first performance took place in a German translation by John Bernhoff, under the title of Strandrecht, at the Neues Theater, Leipzig on 11 November 1906. Smyth persisted in her attempts to see it staged elsewhere, but it was not until the conductor Thomas Beecham championed the work that a complete, staged performance was achieved in England in 1909 with funding support from her friend Mary Dodge.  The Overture has been arranged for wind band, and the PDF contains the full score and a full set of parts.
