The song is played prominently in the 2007 video game BioShock. The X-Files episode Beyond the Sea is named for the song, which is playing on the boat owned by Dana Scully's father. The song plays in the background during a scene in the 1990 film Goodfellas while the characters are preparing food in prison. A version of the song by Kathryn Williams is the theme song for the British TV Show The Cafe broadcast on Sky1. The song plays in the official trailer for the 2018 film The Meg. In the 2020 horror film A Quiet Place Part II, the song is played on loop over the radio as a signal to guide survivors to an island. In an episode of the television show Lost (TV Series), the song is part of a code that needs to be decyphered in the episode Whatever the Case May Be. The plot delves into the original Frech recording of La Mer, heard as a French dub of the closing credits of the film Finding Nemo.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1163491 By Bobby Darin. By Albert Lasry, Charles Trenet, and Jack Lawrence. Arranged by Dave Gingras and John E. Dosher. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show. Score. 3 pages. DAVID LEE GINGRAS #763827. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1163491). Beyond the Sea is the English-language version of the French song La Mer by Charles Trenet, popularized by Bobby Darin in 1959. While the French original was an ode to the sea, Jack Lawrence – who composed the English lyrics – turned it into a love song, which was featured in the Walt Disney/Pixar film Finding Nemo. This contemporary version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. For interest and to keep the rhythm moving, we added some pretty cool left-hand fills. We hope you like what we've done with the song!
