This piece was written in memory of my father. So many childhood memories of Dad revolved around water-summer vacations spent with my family camping by a mountain stream, fishing in a lake and outings to ocean beaches near my childhood home in Southern California. This programmatic work is in three movements.

1. A Cool Mountain Stream utilizes the pentatonic scale to depict a stream as it meanders along, frequently bouncing over rocks and sometimes heading down a slope, eventually ending in a small waterfall that empties into a deep pool. During a summer vacation, my family camped by a stream that was a natural waterslide. We spent many happy hours sliding down the waterslide into the pool below.
2. A Quiet Morning on the Lake uses the repetitive rocking motion of the piano to represent the soothing motion of the rowboat as I spent summer vacations fishing for trout with my dad on a quiet lake in the San Bernardino Mountains.
3. Frolic in the Surf brings out the playfulness felt at the ocean beach, while getting used to the water temperature and trying to predict when the waves will hit the shore. Many summer days were spent on Southern California beaches with family and friends, body surfing, tanning and simply playing in the waves.

Phyllis Avidan Louke (b. 1954), a flutist, teacher, and award-winning composer, living in Portland, Oregon, has been arranging and composing since 1990, with over 70 pieces published.  Many of her works have received recognition in the annual National Flute Association Newly Published Music Competition and other composition competitions.  Ms. Louke has also been the recipient of annual ASCAP awards since 2004.  Her compositions and arrangements have been much-performed nationally and internationally and many have been recorded.  She is also the co-author of an award-winning series of pedagogical publications for the flute published by Theodore Presser Company.  Her music is published by Theodore Presser Company, ALRY Publications, Falls House Publications, Fabulous Flute Music Company, Nourse Wind Publications, and SMP Publications.

Reflections on a Haunted House, by Paul Burnell.  Composed 2021 for Piano.

Movements may be performed individually. 

'Reflections on a Haunted House' comprises sixty short pieces, thirty of which are for piano.

The piano movements may be performed as solo items, or alternately performed with pre-recorded backing tracks.

If all piano movements are performed as a solo set without backing the total duration is 29 minutes.

The titles of the piano movements are derived from the short story 'A Haunted House' by Virginia Woolf (1882-1941). The story was first published in the 1921 collection 'Monday or Tuesday' and later in the 1944 collection 'A Haunted House and Other Short Stories'.

The backing tracks are included on the album 'Reflections on a Haunted House' (IPBO11) released in 2021.

Reflections is a lush ballad for band which is suitable for concert or contest. Clarinets do not cross the break and the high note for trumpet is fourth line D. Reflections can be used by more mature bands as an excellent warm-up selection.

Reflections is the title piece from my lyric collection, Reflections.  It was later republished in a collection of popular Alcon solos titled, Lyric Sketches.  I am now pleased to be able to offer these pieces as individual solos.  Notice this piece has a reflective motive.

Reflections is a work for string quartet that embodies the ambiguity of human memory, and reflections upon those memories. A theme is played, and when it is repeated it isn’t quite how you remembered it. The whole work is also in a rondo form, where the second half of the piece mirrors the first half. The mirror in the middle of the work is also a reflection of the original theme, but shown in a new harmonic context, showing how a memory can be seen in very different lights depending on how it is framed. Overall, the work tries to capture how ambiguous our memories and thoughts can be, and intrigue the listener with the same kind of wonder that so frequently enthralls the composer.

Reflections is from the 'Performables' collection, a suite of six pieces for viola, cleverly written for the intermediate player. The pieces are a fun and tuneful introduction to some advanced techniques, including left hand pizz, harmonics, double stopping and slides. Reflections works equally as well unaccompanied as accompanied, making this a great choice for any performance. Approximately grade 5/6.

Wandering is the second instrumental love song from the Reflections Suite.  Like a waltz from yesteryear, this piece is a dream-like dance for Clarinet in A or B flat (both parts are included). 

The piano and clarinet are like a couple in love, wandering through life hand in hand. The clarinet's broad melodic lines embrace the piano's lush harmonies; together on a journey through whatever twists and turns life may bring.
