Flute Duet Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811687 Composed by MICHEL BLAVET (1700 - 1768. Arranged by Edited by Pat Spence. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards. Score. 17 pages. Piper Publications #3884077. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811687). This sonata ā€˜Pour deux Flutes transversieres sans Basse’ is the first of a set of six published by Boivin in Paris in 1728 as Blavet’s ā€˜Premier Oeuvre’. They were dedicated ā€˜a Son Altesse Serenissime Monsieigneur LE PRINCE DE CARIGNAN Par Mr. Blavet ordinaire de la musique de S. A. S.’ on the suitably elaborate title page. The sonata is written for two equal players and has 4 movements, Adagio, Allegro, Affetuoso & Allegro assai. Players of Intermediate ability and above will enjoy the interplay between the parts. The sonatas were printed using the soprano G clef which places the G on the bottom line of the treble staff, a practice which was not uncommon at the time. Blavet was not only the best flautist in France but also an extremely good bassoon player so would have found this clef easier to read from as he was not a keyboard player. This edition has been transcribed to the now established treble clef with G on the second line. Trills shown in the original as + are shown in this edition as tr. The breath marks in bar/measures 36, 39 & 41 in the final movement are Blavet’s. This is the first instance of his practice of marking the breaths which he developed in his opus 2 set of sonatas for flute and which has proved so useful to today’s performers of music of this period. Curiously Blavet used a flat (b) to cancel a sharp instead of a natural.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811696 Composed by MICHEL BLAVET 1700 - 1768. Arranged by Edited by Pat Spence. Baroque,Concert,Instructional. 20 pages. Piper Publications #4282825. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811696). *The first of a set of 6 sonatas published in Paris by Boivin  A Deux flutes transversiere sans Basse Par Mr. Handel.  No manuscript has been found and there is no date of publication. Boivin was also Michel Blavet’s publisher and the flute duets and sonatas credited to Blavet have publication dates and opus numbers  and his full name and the dedication details. The musical style of the 6 sonatas is characteristic of Blavet  rather than Handel and none of the thematic material from these sonatas seems to have been re-used by Handel - whose borrowings from his own works are numerous and well documented. They are also suitable for pairs of oboes or clarinets or violins. They have been very lightly edited,  obvious wrong notes have been corrected, a few dynamic and decorative suggestions added in  parentheses ( ) missing slurs added in broken lines (- -). Players of Intermediate standard will enjoy this music written for 2 equal instruments. 4 movements - Larghetto, Allegro, Andante & Allegro.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553226 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Classical. 16 pages. RayThompsonMusic #19999. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553226). This arrangement of the 1st mvt of Beethoven's Piano Sonat No.1 lends itself to wind quintet. The horn part is written for a natural horn in F. I have arranged this as though Beethoven had written it for wind quintet, and have made some changes/additions to chords and quaver passges, rather than simply transcribing the piano score note for note. I have also set my tempo at crotchet =100 , which is slow for an Allegro, but it seems to work.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811704 Composed by Joseph Bodin De Boismortier (1689 - 1755). Arranged by Edited & arranged by Pat Spence. Baroque,Concert,Standards. 43 pages. Piper Publications #4338647. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811704). SONATA No. 1 in A MAJOR SONATA No. 2 in E MINOR SONATA No. 3 in D MAJOR Written for 2 equal instruments these sonatas bring pleasure to players of intermediate standard and above whilst developing their independent playing skills. Each sonata has 4 movements slow and fast alternating in the same key. The six opus 8 sonatas were published in Paris in 1725 for ā€˜deux FlĆ»tes-Transversiere sans Basse’. They were published ā€˜Avec PrivilĆ©ge du Roy.’ They were printed as a playing score preceeded by a title page which also gave details of where to obtain copies - L’Auter, Le Sr. Boivin & Le Sr. Le Clere.  A copy of the PrivilĆ©ge du Roy.  granted by King Louis on March 22nd 1724 was printed in full on the second page. It is highly likely that the sonatas would have been played by pairs of oboes or violins or possibly by bassoons or cellos according to the players available in the homes of the wealthy amateur players who could afford to buy music. The flute parts were printed in the soprano clef - with G on the bottom line. This would have been convenient for flute players who often also played bassoon when required and were often not keyboard players. This edition uses the modern bass clef and has a score plus separate parts to facilitate page turns.  In editing the sonatas the  presentation of the music has been modernised.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533434 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Paul Wehage. Baroque,Concert,Standards. Score and part. 32 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2914065. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533434). In 1720 J. S. Bach was in the service of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cƶthen, serving as his Kapellmeister. Since the court of Anhalt-Cƶthen was Calvinist, Church music was limited to congregational psalms and hymns. Bach’s work during this period consisted of writing chamber music for the Prince, who was an accomplished violinist, gambist and harpsichordist. Other works from this period include the Cello Suites, the viola da gamba sonatas, the Flute sonatas and the partita for solo flute and the Orchestral Suites.  The Sonata presented here is in the four movement ā€œChurch Sonataā€ style. The first five sonatas all share the same principal of Slow-Fast-Slow-Fast with a generally unified three-voice ā€œTrio Sonataā€ texture. Passages which include double stops have been arranged as grace notes, which should be performed rapidly, but with a sensitivity to creating the necessary resonance which suggest implied chords.

Flute Duet Flute - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1151917 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Christmas,Classical,Instructional,March,Romantic Period. Score. 8 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #752123. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1151917). This arrangement adapted for flute duo was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).
