David Warin Solomons #1082120. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1506749). This is the first movement of the suite Times of ChangeIt is based on my setting for voice and guitar of the poem A time of change by Mark Haviland:Survivors of some strange social shipwreck we swim seperately to shore There to sit with heads in hands not speaking to each other any more We were a group a single body united in our purpose Now isolated helpless communication contact lost the fragments of some past mosaic whole now each a single coloured splinter without guidance or control The kaleidoscope is shaken the pattern disappears the fragments rearranging A new design appears we take on new identities abandonning the past Memories of our former ties are all that's left at last.

David Warin Solomons #1082126. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1506755). Arrangement of Ariette Oubliée No 4 originally written for alto and guitar (also available on this site). The song is based on a poem by Paul Verlaine in which he imagines himself and his boyfriend Rimbaud as two innocent little girls. Paul Verlaine[literal translation into English]You see, you`ll have to forgive us a few thingsThen we`ll be two happy little girlsAnd if our life is a bit sad at timesat least there will be two of us sobbing together, won`t there?Oh sister souls that we are, wouldn`t we just mingleChildish sweetness with our embarassed vowsTo wander far from the world of adultsAnd forget our banishment in all our fresh innocenceLet`s be two children, two little girlsIn love with nought and astonished by allGoing pale-faced down innocent tree-lined pathsNot even aware that they`ve been forgiven.

David Warin Solomons #1082137. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1506766). This instrumental duo is based on my song by the same title, inspired by a poem by Audrey Vaughan.Love for the Deity is found all round in nature. The guitar part reflects some of the flitting fleeting moments of insect wings and other joys of nature.Words of the original song:My love for you grows beetle's wingsBlack pearls sparking firedropsUnder the low’ring September sunMy love for you sends a winter flashOf radiant blueBetween frost silver banksIn the sunset time of January’s afternoonMy love for you blows heather scent upon the windAnd tosses the cries of flying grouseAnd wings to beat a moorland skyMy love finds wind-flowers by a Cranham laneAnd black bright eyessafe and wideunder frets of golden fernMy love for you paints God across the earthIn clouds like flowersAnd rain like fishes’ scalesIn waters blue of skyAnd birds like flakes of snowMy love sings anthems with the moonAnd writes symphonies with rainbowsMy love is life and breathAnd breath is praise…© Audrey Vaughan.

David Warin Solomons #1082117. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1506746). This jaunty number in swing time was originally a satirical song for alto and piano or alto and guitar (Looking just looking at the personal ads) - which is also available on this site. I decided that the music on its own without words (but with a few variations) would also work well... so here is Springtime jaunt. The words of the original song are:Young man, twenty four, lookin' for a soul mate:slim dark handsome versatile.Who will answer? Will it be the man of my dreams? Will he be the one, will he write to me,will he like my style, will we get on?Looking, just lookingat the personal ads,can we find true love? Are they the peoplewaiting only for us?Waiting for a letter, waiting for a letter, looking, looking.Kindly lady, thirty eight, cuddly butch and lively, likes a laugh and country walks.Who will answer? Will it be the girl of my dreams? Will she be the one, will she write to me,will she like my style, will we get on?[Chorus]Leather wearing, fifty four, into whips and bondage:genuine answers only, please!Who will answer, will it be the whip of my dreams? Will he be the one, will he write to me,will he like my style, will we get on?[Chorus]Grey panther ninety two, into older women, cuddle to my Zimmerframe,Who will answer, will it be the crutch of my dreams? Will she be the one, will she write to me,will she like my style, will we get on?[Chorus].

Clarinet,Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1506779 By András Csáki (guitar) and Péter Balázs (clarinet). By David Warin Solomons. 21st Century,Contemporary,Multicultural,World. Full Performance. Duration 193. David Warin Solomons #1082150. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1506779). This music was inspired by the book ?? (Chinmoku - Silence) by Shusaku Endo (a historical novel based on events in Japan in the 17th century - the title refers to the silence of God in the face of suffering)Some say that Kichijiro (?????) is an equivalent of Judas, but his way of thinking is quite different:He simply cannot accept that the Japanese Christian minority of his time should sufferjust because they have adopted the foreign religion of Christianity. He gives up his faith and betrays the main character, the missionary Rodrigues. The thoughts of Kichijiro are reflected in the music especially in the Japanese pentatonic equivalent of the old carol Oh come all ye faithful which is repeated in a somewhat wistful and yet sardonic way by the two instruments. It also reflects Shusaku Endo's own views onChristianity, in which he was brought up but with whichhe never felt comfortable.

From a series of duets for clarinet and guitar called The poem is the song.  It was originally for voice and guitar with the following words by Dylan Thomas:Being but men, we walked into the treesAfraid, letting our syllables be softFor fear of waking the rooks,For fear of comingNoiselessly into a world of wings and cries. If we were children we might climb,Catch the rooks sleeping, and break no twig,And, after the soft ascent,Thrust out our heads above the branchesTo wonder at the unfailing stars.Out of confusion, as the way is,And the wonder, that man knows,Out of the chaos would come bliss. That, then, is loveliness, we said,Children in wonder watching the stars,Is the aim and the end.Being but men, we walked into the trees.
