Small Ensemble Flute,Keyboard,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1005681 Composed by Grace Joy Reid. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 9 pages. Creating Music Joy #6197023. Published by Creating Music Joy (A0.1005681). My original song, Poe's Christmas Eve Carousel Ride, is a microtonal melody for Celesta and/or Flute/Voice, based on Edgar Allan Poe's Evening Star.I imagined Edgar Allan Poe sitting on one of the carousel horses as it was going around and around. While this was happening, he was looking up at the night sky and thought about how much he liked the evening star better than the moon's light. (The celesta is known for its recognized sound in Tchaikovsky's, The Nutcracker Suite, The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.). I figured out how to put it in a quartal tone key in Finale, thanks to Google. I used quartal tones in the left hand, so it's a blend of a tonal melodic line in an atonal landscape.  Edgar Allan Poe had a horrific life. His father abandoned his family when he was young. His mother died when he was a child. After he was adopted, although not legally, he had a falling out with his foster father, who alienated him and didn't let him know that his foster mother was dying. But, he did inform him after she died. Edgar married his cousin, Virginia Clem, who was 13 and he was 26. She died 11 years into their marriage due to tuberculosis. Thus, some writers say that all of his writings have a beautiful woman who died in his stories. He lost all of the women who loved him in his life. When you see his portrait, he has sad eyes, as someone who has suffered much. But, his writing has lived well beyond his lifetime of misery and heartache.  My song symbolizes, not only Poe's poem, but his life, as very difficult, yet beautiful.  With me poetry has not been a purpose, but a passion. Edgar Allan Poe.  Warning:  Before purchasing this music, make sure that you know how to use quartal tones in your keyboard.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.866215 Composed by Jeffrey Ouper. Christian,Christmas,Contemporary. Score and parts. 74 pages. Jeffrey Ouper #2899041. Published by Jeffrey Ouper (A0.866215). NOTE: These are the instrumental parts only. The conductor score (legal size paper) is a separate download.  All instrument parts and vocal piano reduction score is included in this download. This version of Winter's Breath is scored for Symphonic Band and solo voice.  It will make a great addition to your next holiday concert.  The duration of the song is about 6 minutes.About the song:Winter’s Breath is an original Christmas song (original music and lyrics) composed in 2014. The lyrics embrace both a secular and religious message of peace, love, and hope inspired by the beauty of winter snow.  I really wanted to write a more profound Christmas song with an important message embracing a modern view of Christmas since so many songs are commercialized or limited in meaning.Having lived in the Arizona desert since 2007, snow has become a novelty to me, and I was inspired by its beauty and the memories I had of winter growing up in northern Illinois. The chorus that repeats throughout the song presents an irony of winter warming the soul. I found this to be both interesting and also meaningful in that I was describing my new viewpoint of winter snow (seeing more beauty in it than before) and presenting a metaphor for life-one that encourages the listener to see the beauty in something that most northerners despise. The first verse begins with sensory perceptions including seeing, hearing, touching, and smelling various natural qualities of winter. The second verse describes the joy of children playing in the snow and their belief in winter stories. The third verse is directed at worrying adults with a message of hope for the future. The bridge encourages the listener to look past the negativity and differences in other people and look towards Christmas and the new year for a hope renewed. The final verse concludes with the traditional religious view of Christmas tradition.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.969748 Composed by Kerry Barnes --- British Female Composer born 1962. Christmas,Contemporary. Octavo. 7 pages. Kerry barnes #4729505. Published by kerry barnes (A0.969748). Dicken's It's Christmas! A fun Christmas choral piece for any choir to sing!! Piano part 'really easy' too!! Very playful and festive. Based on the Christmas stories of Charles Dickens ...eg  A Christmas Carol with Ebeneezer and Jacob, Tiny Tim etc. Very catchy chorus in true Gilbert and Sullivan style!  Lots of 'unison' singing with NO harmonies to battle with! The chorus is men and women in Call and Response mode. Other Dickensian characters include Fagin, Nancy, Bill, Bullseye, Havisham's, Mr and Mrs Bumbles.  Two verses in 'spoken words' where soloists can indulge in their acting abilities too!!  The Coda Finale includes Descant parts mimicking London Bells in augmentation, whilst the piano part bulks up a bit with strong double octaves but slowly so still easy to play and finishing with everyone shouting aloud BAH HUMBUG!!

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553729 Composed by Leon Jessel. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Children,Christmas,Standards. 24 pages. RayThompsonMusic #3588401. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553729). Leon Jessel, or Léon Jessel (January 22, 1871 – January 4, 1942) was a German composer of operettas and light classical music pieces. Today he is best known internationally as the composer of the popular jaunty march The Parade of the Tin Soldiers, also known as The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers. Jessel was a prolific composer who wrote hundreds of light orchestral pieces, piano pieces, songs, waltzes, mazurkas, marches, choruses, and other salon music. He achieved considerable acclaim with a number of his operettas - in particular Schwarzwaldmädel(Black Forest Girl), which remains popular to this day.Because Jessel was a Jew by birth (he converted to Christianity at the age of 23), with the rise of Nazism in the late 1920s, his composing virtually came to an end, and his musical works, which had been very popular, were suppressed and nearly forgotten. In Great Britain the piece was used for many years in BBC radio's Children's Hour to introduce the series Toytown, based on stories by S. G. Hulme Beaman. This arrangement could be performed as a lighter item in a Christmas Concert, or even as a Classical Christmas piece. It is arranged for double wind quintet and opt. bass.(double bass or tuba)

Chamber,Christmas,Historic,Renaissance,Traditional. 14 pages. Jmsgu3 #1080594. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1505206). The Coventry Carol is an essential and historically significant English Christmas carol with several notable aspects: Origins and HistoryIt originated in the 16th century in Coventry, England. The carol was part of a medieval mystery play called The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors. It was performed annually by local trade guilds as part of religious community events that told Bible stories.Unique Subject MatterUnlike most Christmas carols, it does not celebrate the birth of Jesus but instead commemorates the Massacre of the Innocents. The lyrics are from the perspective of mothers in Bethlehem mourning their children who are about to be killed by King Herod's soldiers.Musical CharacteristicsIt has a haunting, plaintive melody in a minor key, which adds to its somber mood. The original medieval melody has been lost, but the current tune dates back to at least 1591.Historical PreservationThe carol narrowly survived being lost to history. The original manuscript was destroyed in a fire in 1879 but was preserved thanks to earlier transcriptions by scholars. It gained renewed popularity after being broadcast from the bombed ruins of Coventry Cathedral in 1940 during World War II.Cultural ImpactWhile not as widely known as some carols, it remains an important part of English Christmas musical traditions. Its poignant lyrics and melody have made it a powerful and moving piece for many listeners. Thus, The Coventry Carol represents an important piece of medieval English musical and theatrical history and a unique perspective on the Christmas story that has endured for centuries.
