Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.856223 By Clare Teal. By Clare Teal and Nigel John Stonier. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Contemporary. Octavo. 8 pages. Liz Garnett #4612541. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856223). Clare Teal's jazz original explores the disruptive power of desire and the universality of risk-taking in human life. It is ambiguous as to whether the song is celebrating these qualities or warning us about them, but it certainly refuses to accept hypocrisy on the matter. The arrangement casts the song as a barbershop contest up-tune, and taking harmonic risks that not so many years ago would have been seen as playing with stylistic fire in the BHS system (and probably would still be in SAI as of the time of writing in 2018). Texturally, though, it remains predominantly homophonic so as to let Teal's sparkling lyrics through. It demands sizzling rhythmic skills and an up-for-it attitude, and delivers an exciting ride for singers and audience alike.N.B. This arrangement is notated in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs.Vocal Ranges:Tenor: E4 - F5Lead: A3 - E5Bari: A#3 - D5Bass: D3 - A4www.HelpingYouHarmonise.com

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1220874 Composed by Clare Teal and Nigel John Stonier. Arranged by Jenny Mills. A Cappella,Barbershop,Contemporary,Jazz. Octavo. 11 pages. LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers #817216. Published by LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (A0.1220874). A super-jazzy arrangement of this uptempo swing song as sung by Clare Teal, this is one that is fiendishly challenging, but worthy of an attempt by established SSAA a cappella groups who are experienced and confident with the swing genre. The arranger, the late Jen Mills, was an accomplished jazz musician as well as a barbershop singer and LABBS Music Judge. This arrangement has been donated by her partner for publication by LABBS on SMP so that SSAA a cappella groups can experience the joy of this arrangement. This arrangement is NOT suitable for barbershop contest, as the harmony parts are frequently performing non-homorhythmically with neutral syllables, to give a huge hit of big band flavour. The arrangement is predominantly in the barbershop style (melody in the inner voice) but at times the melody gets passed around the other parts too, so everyone gets a turn! With an extended vocal instrumental intro, it would be suitable for a show where a spoken intro overlays the first 30 seconds or so (once the speech is planned, some bars can be repeated as many times as needed to accommodate). For those unfamiliar with the song, look up Clare Teal's performance on YouTube from her album Don't Talk. A sound sample of this arrangement will follow soon.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1220892 Composed by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman, and Michel Legrand. Arranged by Jenny Mills. 20th Century,A Cappella,Barbershop,Jazz,Standards. Octavo. 4 pages. LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers #817229. Published by LABBS - Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (A0.1220892). This arrangement of this beautiful jazz ballad was commissioned from the late Jenny Mills by a LABBS barbershop chorus, inspired specifically by the recording by Clare Teal.Previously licensed for that chorus only, Jen's partner has now donated this arrangement to LABBS for publication on SMP, so that more SSAA a cappella groups can experience singing this beautiful ballad arranged in super-close harmony, with a beautiful romantic message suitable for shows, weddings, engagements and any time. This arrangement is NOT suitable for barbershop contests, due to many of the chords used having gorgeously evocative semitone intervals within them, which is considered too dissonant for the style.  They are nevertheless extremely appropriate and laden with emotion for a show performance, by a group who can handle the tuning of these unusual (to barbershop) chords. To hear the version by Clare Teal that inspired this arrangement, search on YouTube for her recording from her album Don't Talk. A sample recording of the arrangement being sung by the commissioning chorus will follow soon.
