C Instrument - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1512163 By Tony Bennett. By Bart Howard. Arranged by Marcelo Borba. Broadway,Classical,Historic,Jazz,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 2 pages. Marcelo Borba #1087204. Published by Marcelo Borba (A0.1512163). **Fly Me to the Moon** (originally titled **In Other Words**) Fakebook is one of the most iconic songs of the 20th century, especially associated with jazz and pop, and made famous by various artists, including Frank Sinatra. The song was written in 1954 by composer and lyricist Bart Howard, and since then, it has become a classic.### Origin and CompositionBart Howard wrote the song intending to create something simpler and more direct, in contrast to the more complex songs popular at the time. Inspired by the style of Cole Porter, he crafted a romantic and engaging melody. Initially, the song’s title was **In Other Words**, and the phrase Fly me to the moon was just part of the lyrics, but over time, the phrase became so memorable that the title was informally changed to **Fly Me to the Moon**.### First Recording and SuccessThe song was first recorded in 1954 by singer Kaye Ballard, but it gained wider recognition when **Peggy Lee** performed it on a television show. Numerous artists recorded their versions over the years, but the most famous recording came in 1964, when **Frank Sinatra** included his version arranged by Quincy Jones on the album *It Might as Well Be Swing*, accompanied by the **Count Basie Orchestra**.### Connection to Space ExplorationInterestingly, the song’s popularity coincided with the space exploration era. Sinatra’s recording became particularly symbolic when NASA adopted the song during the Apollo program. Sinatra's version was played during the Apollo 10 mission and was also part of the Apollo 11 playlist, the first mission that took humans to the moon in 1969.### Cultural ImpactFly Me to the Moon is a timeless song, re-recorded by countless artists in various genres and styles, including jazz, bossa nova, and even pop. Its romantic lyrics and the theme of traveling to the moon captured the imagination of generations, connecting romance, adventure, and exploration into a single package. This song is a symbol of American popular culture and the optimism of the space race era, and it is constantly associated with Sinatra's legacy and classic jazz.

String Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.826725 Composed by Jon Hendricks and Neal Hefti. Arranged by Bud Caputo. Contemporary. Score and parts. 26 pages. Bud Caputo #6196943. Published by Bud Caputo (A0.826725). This video meets copyright requirements as no original melodic material or lyrics are posted here. teachers who purchase the full arrangement on Sheetmusicplus.com should use this video in the classroom for rehearsal purposes and ask students to practice their parts at home using YouTube. This 1957 Neal Hefti original was popularized by the Count Basie Orchestra  and has become a jazz standard. It requires string players to learn how to swing the eight notes and hold back on the quarter notes to create the feeling that was so uniquely part of the Basie tradition. All parts remain mostly in first position. The guitar part is optional but will add to the Basie flavor if the player can imitate the Freddie Green style of rhythmic quarter notes that sinks with the drummer’s hi-hat. A Violin 3 part is included to bolster the Viola section and there is a considerable amount of divisi in the Violin I part that is needed to create the same harmonies of the 5 saxes in the Basie Band.

Peet du Toit #988444. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1405391). Organ Grinder's Swing is a song composed by Will Hudson, with lyrics credited to Mitchell Parish and Irving Mills (Mills was the publisher), published in 1936. It became associated with the Jimmie Lunceford orchestra. Hudson based the Organ Grinder's Swing on the nursery rhyme I Love Coffee, I Love Tea.Ella Fitzgerald recorded the song in November 1936 with her Savoy Eight, and recorded it for a second time with the Count Basie Orchestra for her last album with Basie, 1979's A Classy Pair. Other contemporary versions were recorded by Benny Goodman, Django Reinhardt and the Mills Brothers. It was also featured in a 1937 Popeye short Organ Grinder's Swing.Organist Jimmy Smith recorded Organ Grinder's Swing on his 1965 album Organ Grinder Swing. Vibraphonist Milt Jackson recorded it again in 1976 live at the Kosei Nenkin, Tokyo, with Teddy Edwards, Cedar Walton, Ray Brown and Billy Higgins.I have adapted this song for an organ, brass and percussion concert to something light and jazzy and requested my partner in crime, Sam Harrill, to add the percussion part. May you enjoy it with us!
