The guitar part is optional but will add to the Basie flavor if the player can imitate the Freddie Green style of rhythmic quarter notes that sinks with the drummer’s hi-hat. A Violin 3 part is included to bolster the Viola section and there is a considerable amount of divisi in the Violin I part that is needed to create the same harmonies of the 5 saxes in the Basie Band.
