Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1516625 Composed by David Woodcock. 21st Century,Celtic,Classical,Contest,Festival,Irish,Medieval. 187 pages. David Woodcock #1090797. Published by David Woodcock (A0.1516625). This is an heroic piece for Concert Band in three movements. Programme Notes:From a young age, I was always interested in castles and history, and have visited many castles in my home country of Wales, which is sometimes called the “castle capital of the world”. At one time Wales had about 600 castles, of which over 100 are still standing, either as ruins or restored buildings. The remainder have been reduced to ditches, mounds and earthworks. Visiting these amazing historically significant buildings has allowed me to reflect on their importance and purpose. In their day they were the centres of thriving communities and it is through their value as the focus of the community, that the three movements have developed their individual characteristics. The first movement depicts a large formidable castle, towering over the neighbouring lands, exuding power, authority and law, complete with noblemen and knights; the second movement describes the pastoral scenes around the castle, and the commoners going about their ordinary lives; the third demonstrates the military function of the castle which was to protect: when coming under siege, the people eventually triumph, the enemy defeated.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1506193 Composed by David Woodcock. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 340 pages. David Woodcock #1081544. Published by David Woodcock (A0.1506193). The concerto is in three movements. The first is lively, playful and folk-like, but is interspersed with suspenseful and thoughtful interludes. After a brief introduction, the main soulful theme of the second movement emerges, setting the mood for most of the movement. There is a another appearance of the introductory material, which is further developed, before the return of the main musical idea. The last movement has a sense of restlessness and anxiety, the music being fragmented and rhythmic, ending with a solo cadenza, and brief orchestral coda.

Mixed Percussion B-Flat Tuba,B-Flat trombone,Baritone Horn TC/Euphonium,Bass Trombone,E-Flat Cornet,E-Flat Tenor Horn,E-Flat Tuba TC,Flugelhorn,Percussion 1,Percussion 2,Tenor Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488809 Composed by David Woodcock. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. Brass Band. 110 pages. David Woodcock #1065660. Published by David Woodcock (A0.1488809). Twin PolaritiesThis work challenges the audience from a musicological perspective. It residescomfortably in two worlds: that of the diatonic system, which is key-centric andhas harmonic parameters, as distinct from the world of chromaticism, whichtranscends the harmonic boundaries of the diatonic playing field. Combined, these two polarities create an inherent pervading ambiguity. The work’s structure could be loosely defined as ABA, with A being spikey andfrenetic using many compositional devices in a unified manner, with powerfulrhythmic motifs. The use of accents on the off beats, the use of slurs, staccato andtenuto and the use of syncopation both within and across the bar, all adds to themaelstrom and energy that pervades this piece. This frenetic energy is enhancedby motifs which are rhythmically augmented. Amongst all the chromaticism, therepeated semiquaver is arresting, simply because it is not chromatic and providesa brief aural respite. The B section has essentially long melodic legato phrases, which are a counterweight to the opening, and the return of the energy of A. Theseemingly innocuous repeated semiquaver ultimately has the final word. One is left with the impression that diatonic or chromatic, legato or staccato, thatsyncopation and accents, are all so much a part of the language of music that theyare both a unifying and fragmenting force which create inseparable polarities.

Acoustic Guitar,Bass Clef Instrument,Bass Guitar,Drums,Electric Guitar,Keyboard,Treble Clef Instrument - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1395894 By Taco. By Irving Berlin. Arranged by David Woodcock. 20th Century,Broadway,Instructional,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. 16 pages. David Woodcock #979271. Published by David Woodcock (A0.1395894). This is an arrangement of the famous song by Irving Berlin, scored for flexible ensemble in A. It is also available in G. This series has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the ever-changing ensemble combinations that primary and secondary schools and other instrumental ensembles face.  Because certain instruments are more comfortable in playing in certain keys, each work will be offered in two keys. This should allow for the music director to choose the key most suitable for the instrumental combination. Each piece consists of five core instrumental parts: 2 treble, 1 alto, tenor and bass. All parts will have a number of transpositions suitable for the instruments that are capable of playing those parts, eg, Part 2 will have parts for violin, B flat clarinet and trumpet, and E flat alto sax.  This will save music directors' time in having to write out additional parts. Optional parts are included for tuned and untuned percussion, guitar (chords) and bass guitar (notation and TAB), a keyboard part appropriate to the difficulty level, and a rehearsal piano part which is a fuller realisation of the piece and could be played by a more advanced student or the music director. If the numbers of players on each part allows, the music director can feel free to 'solo' instruments and vary the orchestration, especially on repeats, to create variety in instrumental colour.
