It was written for a local German fireman's choir by one of his parish's singers who's profession was as a firefighter. The work languished for years but was discovered by a touring American choir who brought it back to the USA and recorded it. It became an instant hit. The music has a heavenly feel to it and one is uplifted by its sheer beauty. This 7-minute arrangement by Robert Kalwas is for 8-part Trombone ensemble and of moderate difficulty. All parts are in bass clef and the ranges are not extreme at all. Ave Maria is featured on YouTube® as a Virtual Choir International Multitrack for a Children's Charity in South Africa. I have taken it and turned it into an octet and put it in the keys of Eb and Bb. The key of Eb has less crunch to it and requires very strong Euphonium players, while the key of Bb has more crunch, but really lays well for a strong low Tuba section. While it is written for an octet, I truly believe that it is much more suited for Tuba and Euphonium choir. It is arranged in a way that will really show off tone and how big of a sound the group can achieve.
