Johann Sebastian Bach wrote some song-like, lyrical pieces, often movements in larger compositions for instrumental ensembles, the so called „Airs. This piece, the Air of the second movement of the Suite No.3 in D major, BWV 1068 is one of the most impressive master works ever written in the history of the human being.  The piece does not require virtuoso skills to perform and is appropriate for students or amateurs. Without any doubt very pleasant to listen when played by a dedicated and very well rehearsed ensemble, it has always a very powerful effect on the audience. It can be used in concerts and all sorts of spiritual or religious events. In this arrangement for woodwind Quintet the bass is shared by the fagote and the horn as two independent voices that perform „as one. For a matter of study and comparison the original cello part is included in this work. It could be eventually used if the ensemble decides to double the original bass line with both the fagot and the horn.     I also could not resist not to interchange the role of the flute and the oboe on the „repetition : I have shortened some of the notes and used various interpretation symbols, accents and nuances, they are mere suggestions for an interpretation and are total absent on the original score. The use of the dot over the notes is called „staccato, it means in this case that the note is shortened to approximately half of its length.  Thank you very much for taking your time to read this text and to listen to the file. He studied cello and became a virtuoso who eventually moved to Spain, where he worked with the Spanish royal family for the rest of his life. His String Quintet in E major, Op. 11, No. 5, G 275, was written in 1771 and published in 1775, and is one of his most famous works.The quintet is famous for its minuet and trio, third movement which is often played as an independent piece outside the context of the full quintet. This is notably the most famous, it is in 3/4 time, in the key of E Major modulating to A Major. This is a beautiful work, and not just the third movement, with good partial writing for all. The lovely, flowing melodies and rhythms are typical of Boccherini. The quintet is suitable for both concerts and home performances.

Violoncello Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Burgundian Air/March of the Three Kings, has been arranged for 5 Violoncellos, by Regis Bookshar. It would be a great addition to any music library. It incorporates two Traditional French melodies into one exciting arrangement, which, I'm certain, will entertain both performers and audiences alike. It is suitable for high school and college students and is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services but could be performed anytime and anywhere. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (22 pages). It begins with a Burgundian Air, played by a solo instrument. The melody is then played by two instruments in harmony before the rest of the ensemble joins in. This is followed by the March of the Three Kings, a Provencal melody (La Marche Des Rois Mages) which dates from the 13th century and recalls the Three Kings of the Christmas story. The peasants probably sang and danced to this tune, even perhaps honoring their own folk heroes, the French dukes, dressed in their shining armor and carrying brilliant banners, as they marched off to the Crusades. Georges Bizet utilized this tune as a farandole, or stately dance, in his incidental music for Alphonse Daudet's play L'Arlesienne (The Girl from Arles). There is a fugal section in which each instrument enters, playing an embellished version of the tune before concluding the arrangement. Also available are other settings of these two Traditional French melodies for a variety of instrumental ensembles as well as numerous other arrangements in a variety of styles. The custom of the Christmas tree developed in the course of the 19th century, and the song came to be seen as a Christmas carol. The modern lyrics were written in 1824 by the Leipzig organist, teacher and composer, Ernst Anschutz. A tannenbaum is a fir tree. The lyrics do not actually refer to Christmas or describe a decorated tree. Instead, they refer to the fir's evergreen quality as a symbol of constancy and faithfulness.In this arrangement of O Christmas Tree, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic outline of this familiar song, but has inserted a short interlude, which brings to mind the sound of alphorns, or alpenhorns, instruments which may be made from red pine, or fir trees. and are used by mountain dwellers in the Bavarian Alps. I think that students will enjoy this imitative section in the song.
