Mixed Percussion B-Flat Tuba,B-Flat trombone,Baritone Horn TC/Euphonium,Bass Trombone,E-Flat Cornet,E-Flat Tenor Horn,E-Flat Tuba TC,Flugelhorn,Percussion 1,Percussion 2,Tenor Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1126911 By Dawn Featuring Tony Orlando. By Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown. Arranged by Rita Arendz. 20th Century,Contemporary,Patriotic,Pop. Brass Band. 54 pages. Rita Arendz #727554. Published by Rita Arendz (A0.1126911). The Yellow Ribbon representing a person's test or trial while they wait for their loved ones to return home has been around for over 400 years. It was prevalent during the English Civil War during the mid-1600s and again by the US Calvary in the late 1800s. The 1972 chart Tie A Yellow Ribbon by Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown may have been influenced by the older She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, first copyrighted in 1917 by George Norton. Or maybe the 1949 John Wayne movie by the same title. The impact of Tony Orlando's cover of Tie A Yellow Ribbon pushed the symbolism into the public eye after its release in 1973, especially in light of Vietnam and the Iran Hostage Crisis. Today it represents various support groups in different countries; from AIDS to Cancer, to Suicide Prevention, and supporting troops, with a major resurgence in use during the War in Afghanistan as a result of 9/11. This setting for British Style Brass Band is a wonderful addition to the repertoire list for concerts supporting many great causes. Duration ~3:00. 54 pages.

In 2008 it was ranked the 37th biggest song of all time. The arrangement is for string quintet/orchestra and is an intermediate level arrangement due to the syncopated rhythms and some 4th position playing for the cellist. Also, double stop chords. Violin 1, viola and cello all get to play the tune. The pizzicato double bass part creates a lilting jazz feel.

Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 2 pages. John Fries #985443. Published by John Fries (A0.1402236). TYPE JOHN FRIES IN THE SEARCH BAR TO SEE ALL I HAVE TO OFFER. Thanks, John. The origin of the idea of a yellow ribbon as remembrance may have been the 19th-century practice that some women allegedly had of wearing a yellow ribbon in their hair to signify their devotion to a husband or sweetheart serving in the U.S. Cavalry. The song 'Round Her Neck She Wears a Yeller Ribbon, tracing back centuries but copyrighted by George A. Norton in 1917, and later inspiring the John Wayne movie She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, is a reference to this. The symbol of a yellow ribbon became widely known in civilian life in the 1970s as a reminder that an absent loved one, either in the military or in jail, would be welcomed home on their return. In 2008, Billboard ranked the song as the 37th biggest song of all time in its issue celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Hot 100.

String Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1405212 By Dawn Featuring Tony Orlando. By Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown. Arranged by Mike Spiller. 20th Century,Pop. 9 pages. Platypus Music #988259. Published by Platypus Music (A0.1405212). The arrangement of this popular number one song on the charts in 1973 is set for string quintet. It would work equally as well for string orchestra or string quintet/quartet. The 1st violin part carries the melody line throughout with the 2nd violin part providing an harmonic accompaniment with the same type of rhythms as the 1st violin part. The viola part has off beat rhythms and the cello line has a fragment of the melody and syncopated rhythms. The bass line provides the beat and to be played pizzicato throughout.

String Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1406069 By Dawn Featuring Tony Orlando. By Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown. Arranged by Mike Spiller. 20th Century,Pop. 9 pages. Platypus Music #989159. Published by Platypus Music (A0.1406069). This arrangement for string orchestra of this 1972 hit would also work very well as a string quartet or quintet. The melody is contained mostly in the 1st violin part. At one point the cello has the melody in octaves with the 1st violin. The 2nd violin and cello lines have syncopated sections and the off beat in the viola part is in answer to the pizzicato bass line which is on the beat. This rhythmic slightly 'jiving' arrangement should be performed at a moderate tempo.
