Clarinet (in A) and piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6646 Composed by Johanna Senfter. This edition: Sheet music. Clarinet Library. Downloadable. Op. 57. Duration 18 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6646. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6646). Key: A major. The biography of the reserved and withdrawn composer Johanna Senfter is not characterized by any outstanding events or incidents. Born in Oppenheim on the Rhine on 27 November 1879, the composer chose to live on the Sparrhof, her family's estate, all her life until her death on 11 August 1961. Her amazing musicality already showed at an early age and was early recognized and actively encouraged by her parents. Max Reger repeatedly testified to his pupil's 'extraordinary compositional talent'. The works by Johanna Senfter are mainly influenced by Brahms and Reger, but she knew pretty soon how to further develop Reger's personal style individually in her own works without ever crossing the - widely drawn - boundaries of a harmony based on the functional theory. The time of creation of the Sonata for A clarinet (or viola) and piano Op. 57 can only be estimated: probably around 1925. There is only solid evidence of the place and date of the world premiere: Karlsruhe, 8 December 1932. This edition of the previously unprinted sonata is based on the composer's autograph kept at the library of the Cologne Academy of Music.

Cello and piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6647 Composed by Johanna Senfter. This edition: Sheet music. Cello Library. Downloadable. Op. 79. Duration 18 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6647. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6647). Key: E flat major. The composer Johanna Senfter (1879-1961) from Oppenheim studied composition with Max Reger in Leipzig. Her expressive style is characterised by polyphonic settings and late-Romantic harmony. Sonate für Violoncello und Klavier Opus 79 was written by Johanna Senfter around 1935. But it was not before 1993 that the long forgotten cello sonata was released on CD for the first time. The current edition of the previously unpublished sonata, now presented by us, is based on the autograph kept at the library of the Cologne Hochschule für Musik. A rewarding concert piece for advanced cellists.

8 wind instruments (flute, clarinet in A, 4 horns and 2 bassoons) - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q3108 Composed by Johanna Senfter. This edition: score. Downloadable, Score. Op. 60. Schott Music - Digital #Q3108. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3108). Key: E major.Johanna Senfter studied music at the Conservatoire in Frankfurt and then in 1908/9 with Max Reger at the Leipzig Conservatoire. Her late Romantic music draws inspiration from the polyphonic structure of Reger and Bach, as well as from the complex use of sounds and motifs in the music of J. Brahms, which did not leave her in an easy position in the context of twentieth Century modernism. Growing interest in the work of female composers has also led to a rediscovery of J. Senfter in recent years. Her extensive work includes piano music, orchestral works and chamber music, including the Piece for flute, clarinet (in A), two bassoons and four horns, first performed in Karlsruhe in 1934.

Piano trio - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11489 Composed by Johanna Senfter. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Op. 134. Schott Music - Digital #Q11489. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11489). The composer and violinist Johanna Senfter (1879 1961) from Oppenheim concerned herself with piano-accompanied chamber music for strings all her life. Max Reger valued her 'extraordinary compositional talent' and first taught her privately, later at the Leipzig Conservatoire. Senfter wrote five piano trios, her first piano trio (opus 7) being composed during her studies in Leipzig. Kleines leichtes Trio in F major, opus 134, published here for the first time, was written about 50 years later and probably is one of the last, if not her last finished composition. The late Romantic miniature is rewarding as a technically simple, yet musically demanding work for lessons and concert performances.

2 violins - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6565 Composed by Johanna Senfter. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 91. Schott Music - Digital #Q6565. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6565). The composer and violinist Johanna Senfter from Oppenheim wrote concert works, such as chamber music works for violin, her whole life. Being a pupil of Reger, who held her in high esteem, she composed 10 alte Tänze für 2 Violinen, Op. 91, which follow the style of Max Reger and even share his preference for 'composing in the old style'. The dances, which were combined by the composer to form two suites, are influenced by the tradition of the old French violin duos by Boismortier, Corrette or Leclair. This demanding chamber music is fun to play and suitable for both lessons and concerts.

Violin and piano - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6908 Composed by Johanna Senfter. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 32. Schott Music - Digital #Q6908. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6908). Key: G minor.Johanna Senfter (1879-1961) was a pupil of Max Reger. Beginning with an expressive violin theme in a densely packed, 'Brahms-like' piano setting, the classical four-movement work centres around two capricious and playful movements: Lustig, nicht zu schnell is how the second movement begins, a fugal gem working with all kinds of contrapuntal tricks. This is followed by a scherzo-like, wittily flirting Rasch. The finale begins with a melodically simple tune in an almost folksong-like tone which, by a sequence of character variations, builds to a grand gesture which eventually leads back to the initial cantabile – with the sonata coming to a quiet end. A valuable addition to the chamber music repertoire.
