AccessibleCello.com is very happy to present Amazing Grace, whose lyrics were written in the 1700s by a leader in the abolitionist movement against slavery. This timeless piece, paired with Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (lyrics also written in the 1700's & serving as a sort of chorus and bridge) makes a lovely solo piece for cello. When played at a moderate tempo, embellishments which are appropriate to that time period have been included to add to the color and expression of these lovely songs. Suggested chords are included so that the piece may be easily performed with chart reading musicians on keys and/or guitar & bass.

As a professional cellist and teacher, I am very happy to present this beautiful Arioso, arranged in the key of C, in order to optimize the beautiful lower solo voice of the cello. By bringing the key down a fifth, the showier, more technically demanding aspects of the piece are eliminated, thus allowing access to the intermediate level player, while still remaining an enjoyable selection for professional players. In addition, I feel the lower key enables both the listener and the performer to absorb the the deeply resonant and meditative sounds of the cello.

A short easy cello solo with piano accompaniment.

    Like Shenandoah and Red River Valley, this simple bittersweet melody calls to mind America’s rural past and the sadness of its Civil War. Written on a long-past Memorial Day, its cover evokes an emotional remembrance of regret and yearning with these words, It is 1861. A young farm boy, called to war, waltzes with his girl for the last time. The slow tune calls to mind a warm summer night’s barn dance, a sweet romance, and a sad farewell forever.

  The piece is easy to play, but also worth playing well.
