Regarding the title,
it's actually a rhythmic addition built on 1 and 1, 2 and 1, 2, 3 and 1, 2, 3, 4.

An addition, please!
We exploit the leading tone of the first degree and the leading tone of the fifth degree. The whole is punctuated by the violin in an obsessive manner, creating a sort of perpetual, hypnotic movement leading to trance. The piece needs to be repeated, have reprises, and be played again and again...

Concernant le titre,

c'est en fait une addition rythmique construite sur 1 et 1, 2 et 1, 2, 3 et 1, 2, 3, 4.

On exploite la note sensible du premier degré et la sensible du cinquième degré, l'ensemble est ponctué par le violon de manière obsessionnelle, on obtient une sorte de mouvement perpétuel, hypnotique, conduisant à la transe. Il faut répéter le morceau, mettre des reprises et le jouer à nouveau puis à nouveau encore…

This is a piece for string quartet and marimba.

The marimba is not a soloist but integrated into the ensemble. It's an instrument that resonates the wood directly, whereas string instruments make it vibrate. It's this blend that interested me.

As for the piece itself, I started with cells, melodic melismas that I repeat, which transform like a sort of gigantic metamorphosis. There's a brilliant section in the middle, which is a bit like lace, organic and more raw than at the beginning. For the finale, the strings continuously vibrate open strings to give the impression of an orchestra tuning.

Il s'agit d'une pièce pour quatuor à codes et marimba.

Le marimba n'est pas soliste, mais intégré à l'ensemble. C’est un instrument qui fait raisonner le bois directement alors que les instruments à cordes le font vibrer, c'est ce mélange qui m'intéressait.

Pour l'œuvre en elle-même, je suis parti de cellules, de mélismes mélodiques que je répète, qui se transforment comme une sorte de gigantesque métamorphose.
Il y a une partie brillante au centre, qui est un petit peu en dentelle, organique et plus brut qu'au début. Pour le final, les cordes vibrent à vide en permanence pour obtenir l'impression d'un orchestre qui s'accorde.

I structured the beginning in a very expansive, linear way, with this rain reproduced by the rain stick.

The piano creates a rotating bassline. Over this foundation, the marimba and violin come and go repetitively. There isn't really an ending; we move towards silence, in fact, it's very Zen.
I wrote this piece so that the marimbist passes the rain stick to the violinist at a certain moment, a baton exchange like in a relay race.

J'ai construit le début de manière très étalée, très linéaire, avec cette pluie reproduite par le bâton de pluie. Le piano qui fait tourner une basse.

Par-dessus cette base, le marimba et le violon viennent et s’en vont de manière répétitive.
Il n’y a pas de vraiment de fin, on va vers le silence en fait, c’est très Zen.
J'ai écrit cette piece en permettant que le marimbiste transmette au violoniste le baton de pluie a un certain moment, un échange de baton comme dans un relais donc.
