O Little Town of Bethlehem♫ by Lewis H Redner 1868 (melody ST LOUIS) and Phillips Brooks♫ arranged for flute and piano by Stephen R Dalrymple♫ transcribed for clarinet, trumpet, euphonium, violin, and cello♫ Brooks became an Episcopal priest in 1860, and became rector of the Church of the Advent, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On a journey in the Holy Land in 1865, Brooks travelled from Jerusalem to Bethlehem on horseback, assisting there in a church service on Christmas Eve. These lyrics, written in 1867, were a result of that evening. The church’s organist, Lewis Redner, composed the melody on December 23, 1868.
