Austrian composer Rudolf Sieczynski composed this nostalgic waltz Wien, Du Stadt Meiner Träume (Vienna, City of My Dreams) paying homage the city of his birth. He describes Vienna as if it were a woman, wooing a man with her divine beauty.  This song was popularized by the Austrian tenor Richard Tauber in 1935, and is featured in the soundtrack of Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut.  This arrangement is for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.  It uses both the original German lyrics, and Edward Lockton’s English text. He is mainly known for his operettas, of which the most successful and best known is The Merry Widow (Die lustige Witwe). Lehár was also associated with the operatic tenor Richard Tauber, who sang in many of his operettas, beginning with a revival of his 1910 operetta Zigeunerliebe in 1920 and then Frasquita [de] in 1922, in which Lehár once again found a suitable post-war style.   He died aged 78 in 1948 in Bad Ischl, near Salzburg, and was buried there. His younger brother Anton became the administrator of his estate, promoting the popularity of Franz Lehár's music.This very pleasant brass band arrangement by Denis Wright was adapted for a brass quintet and percussion to be enjoyed.

This song was the most popular and enduring to emerge from the production. It was originally recorded by Muriel Barron & Olive Gilbert (1945) and has since been performed by many artists, including notably Anne Zieglerand Webster Booth, Richard Tauber, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra (for his album Sinatra Sings Great Songs from Great Britain (1962)Written as World War II drew to its close, the song describes the yearning of parted couples to be reunited. Famous in Hungary for writing many operas, he became internationally famous when Fritz Kreisler transcribed his piano piece La poupĂ©e valsante for violin.Poldini studied with István Tomka in Budapest and with Eusebius Mandyczewski in Vienna. In 1908 he settled in Switzerland, writing two of his more famous operas: The Vagabond and the Princess (1903) and Wedding in Carnival Time(1924). These were both produced in London, the latter under the title Love Adrift. Himfy was produced in 1938 in Budapest.Poldini is best known for his miniature piano pieces, such as La poupĂ©e valsante, given wider audience in Fritz Kreisler's transcription, Arlequinades, Morceaux pittoresques, Episodes Ă  la cour, Images, and Moments musicaux. Marionettes were seven piano pieces that he later orchestrated.His one-act opera Der Vagabund und die Prinzessin was given 14 times in Dresden in 1916/17 under Fritz Reiner with a cast including Ludwig Ermold, Minnie Nast, Georg Zottmayr and Richard Tauber.He died in Vevey, Switzerland in 1957, aged 88.
