Skye Boat Song is a traditional Scottish folk song that tells the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie's escape to the Isle of Skye after the defeat of the Jacobite uprising in 1746. The song is sung from the perspective of a young woman who helps the prince flee to safety on a small boat, disguised as a servant. The melody is hauntingly beautiful and has been adapted for many different genres, including classical music and pop. The song has become an emblem of Scottish heritage and is often performed at events such as weddings and ceilidhs.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.597602 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Concert,Graduation,Holiday,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 12 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #6712473. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597602). It probably comes as a surprise to many to know that Beethoven wrote variations on the current British national anthem, as well as on a jingoistic tune sung every year at the BBC Proms. But indeed he did. In 1803 he was approached by George Thomson, a civil servant living in Edinburgh who was passionate about collecting folk songs from his own country. He wanted Beethoven to compose six sonatas on Scottish melodies-a project which never materialized, but which started a business relationship that lasted until 1820. For Thomson, Beethoven completed some 150 arrangements of Scottish, Welsh and Irish folk songs (including Auld lang syne). Towards the end of 1803, he sent him these two sets of variations for piano, saying they weren’t too difficult and hoping they would have much success.Concerning the 7 Variations on ‘God save the King’, WoO78, Beethoven made the comment that he wanted to ‘show the English what a blessing they have’ with that tune. We don’t really know who wrote it, but it became very popular in 1745 when it started being sung at Drury Lane and Covent Garden to celebrate the putting-down of the Jacobite rising. It travelled over to the Continent where in 1795 it became the royal anthem of Prussia (‘Heil dir im Siegerkranz’).It makes a great theme for variations, and Beethoven has a lot of fun with it. If ever you needed proof of humour in his music, here it is. After some counterpoint in variation 1, he gives us some nimble fingerwork to deal with before an expressive minor-mode variation that can also be played a bit tongue-in-cheek. He changes metre for variation 6, a perky march, and stays in that time signature for variation 7. A lot of the difficulty of this piece depends on the tempo you choose at this point. The coda is inspired: a brief cadenza-like descent of F major broken chords leads us into a solemn return of the theme, but with some piquant and mischievous harmonies. The final allegro brings the work to a bravura conclusion.

String Trio Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488228 Composed by William Shield. Arranged by Robert Hoskins. Classical. 27 pages. Artaria Editions #1065115. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488228). Shield's Trios, written for a continental audience, are seminal works in the composer's output and mark a new level of compositional attainment in the English chamber music repertory. Technically, they contain a wide variety of ideas which are developed with great ingenuity through a wide range of keys, dynamic contrasts and timbral effects. Aesthetically, they blend 'popular' and 'learned' taste along with 'orchestral' splendour and 18th century notions of beauty. The Trios present a dazzling range of moods and style with each work demonstrating Shield's mastery of the idiom, both in his treatment of individual instruments and in the handling of textures. While there is no shortage of melody and accompaniment, in which the violin takes the lead, there are many memorable solos for the viola and the cello in its high register. The wide range of textures includes melodic decoration, dialogue, contrast of high and low register, legato and staccato, powerful unison and double octaves. Shield's ability to incorporate arioso-like melody, the prevailing 'symphonic' style and folk elements was largely achieved through the cross-generic requirements of English comic opera (a form to which Shield devoted himself during the whole of his creative career). In general, Shield's technique results in a firm control of the way music moves - with sometimes a surprising degree of stylistic restlessness and sometimes of unexpected plainness and simplicity. The trios Shield selected for publication were issued by Longman and Broderip, London, in January 1796 under the inspection of the composer. No autograph of these works survives and Longman and Broderip's printing, a copy of which is preserved in the Bodleian Library, Oxford, under the call number Mus.Instr.I 214(15), is the only source of this edition. Arranged by Andrew Jacobi. Classical. 46 pages. Andrew Jacobi #955580. Published by Andrew Jacobi (A0.1371363). Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 is a four-movement work pulled from Edvard Greig’s incidental music to Henrik Ibsen’s 1867 play also titled Peer Gynt.  The original music was composed in 1875 with select movements from the play being pulled into its own suite and published in 1888.  The opening movement to Suite No. 1originated in the prelude to Act IV of the play where it depicted the rising sun.Edvard Grieg was a Norwegian composer and pianist and was considered one of the leading composers from the Romantic Era. His integration of Norwegian folk music into his music helped to develop a national identity for Norway and much of his music remains as standard repertoire today.About the Arrangement:This arrangement of Morning Mood is written for a full woodwind choir, but features a few possible substitutions.  Both oboe parts may be substituted as need to fill in voices.  Oboe 1 features a substitute part for either soprano saxophone or clarinet and is necessary to perform the piece without significant holes.  It is preferred that soprano sax be used in order to get the change in timbre, but clarinet can be effectively used.  The oboe 2 part can be substituted for alto saxophone.  All of the important bassoon parts are doubled in other parts and this arrangement can be played without a bassoon.List of partsFlute 1Flute 2Oboe 1 (Soprano Sax or Clarinet)Oboe 2 (Alto Sax)Bassoon 1Bassoon 2Clarinet 1Clarinet 2Clarinet 3Bass ClarinetContra Alto/Bass ClarinetAlto Sax 1Alto Sax 2Tenor SaxBari Sax.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1025362 Composed by Scottish Traditional Melody. Arranged by Joshua Shoemaker. Classical,Folk. Octavo. 12 pages. Joshua Shoemaker #4639529. Published by Joshua Shoemaker (A0.1025362). Loch Lomond has its roots in the Jacobite uprising of 1745. This rebellion was the final and bloodiest Scottish war for independence. It ultimately failed, and many Scots were taken prisoner. Some prisoners were pardoned and freed, while others were condemned to death. It is here the song depicts two such prisoners. Both are friends, but one has been pardoned, while the other has been condemned. The song is from the point of the condemned friend, speaking to his freed friend. The condemned friend states that while his spirit will reach Lake Lomond, Loch Lomond that is, before his friend, the condemned friend's spirit will never be able to communicate with his significant other again. Whereas the freed friend has demanding physical journey home, but will be able to see his significant other again.

Published by Julia Gordon (A0.822592). four Scottish airs arranged as a set for accordion THE AULD HOOSEWritten by Carilina Oliphant (Lady Nairne, 1766-1845) this is a nostalgic song about her birthplace in Gask, Perthshire.LOCH LOMONDLoch Lomond, also known as ‘The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond’, is a well-known traditional Scottish song first published in 1841 in 'Vocal Melodies of Scotland'. There are many theories about the meaning of the song, most of which are connected to the Jacobite Uprising of 1745. One interpretation based on the lyrics is that the song is sung by the lover of a captured Jacobite rebel set to be executed in London following a show trial. The heads of the executed rebels were then set upon pikes and exhibited in all of the towns between London and Edinburgh in a procession along the 'high road' (the most important road), while the relatives of the rebels walked back along the 'low road' (the ordinary road travelled by peasants and commoners).COMIN’ THRO’ THE RYEThe lyrics were written in 1782 by Robert Burns (1759–96) who put the words to the melody of the ‘Common' Frae The Town’, a variant of the tune to which 'Auld Lang Syne' is usually sung.THE BLUEBELLS OF SCOTLANDThe Bluebells of Scotland is the usual modern name for a Scottish folk song. It was written by Dora Jordan, an English actress and writer, and first published in 1801.
