For beginners, it may be difficult to hear the different parts for the piece and technically difficult to play the piece. In this arrangement, the voices are split into 3 violins. This enables violinists to play this piece together and appreciate the various parts both separately and together in the Fugue. While doing the arrangement, reference was made with JS Bach's own transcription of this piece for Organ (BWV 539). With the expanded musical palette of the Organ transcription, much insight can be gained into Bach's ideas on this Fugue. Portions of the Organ version were incorporated to this arrangement, especially where there is only 1 melody line. In addition, the theme is also repeated over some single melody lines. He began composing at the age of thirteen and became a professor at the age of nineteen. He has studied in courses and seminars about music and film in several official institutions with Ennio Morricone, Ettore Scolla, Giussepe Tornatore, E. Polizzi, Radamés Gnatalli, Max Rostal, Oilliam Lanna, S. Vianna (Accademia Chigiana di Siena, Reale Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Arts Academy of Rome, Royal University College of Music Stockholm, UFMG, UFBA), among others. He currently works as a composer-conductor and cultural producer, as well as a professor at the Clóvis Salgado Foundation, Palácio das Artes, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in addition to offering lectures and workshops in various institutions both in Brazil and abroad. His first teacher wa his father, Sebastião Vianna (assistant and reviser for the Brazilian composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos), and most recently furthered his studies in other institutions in Brazil, Italy, and Sweden. In Tudor or Jacobean music, a fantasy, sometimes spelled fantasie or even fancy is a musical piece for several voices that trade and repeat melodies and phrases. It is an early form of counterpoint. This Fantasy, the first of a set of nine was written in 1620. The original version was for three viols. This arrangement for three saxophones is in the original key of F major. It includes the following parts: Full saxophone trio score Part 1 for soprano sax Part 1 for alto sax Part 2 for alto sax Part 2 for tenor sax Part 3 for baritone sax Part 3 for tenor sax. This part could be played by bass sax as well.  Performance time is about 3 minutes. Parts are very independent. The piece is rhthmically straightforward with a few syncopations, moderate tempo, and a convenient key signature. The Part 1 alto sax range is extensive. Moderate difficulty.

This piece (originally intitled) was transcribed by Oscar Chilesotti from a Sixteenth-century manuscript lute book. It is chosen here as a straightforward example of a common style of piece which was purely instrumental and unrelated to dance forms. The aim of the player is to bring out the contrapuntual (multiline) quality of the piece bycarefully sustaining tied and held notes for their value. It is important to recognize the original tune as it reoccurs in other voices. The Fantasia seems to sound well at a stately.

It has more sweep and scope than most of his other piano music and most of the sonatas as well. Thus, it was favored as a showpiece. Our setting uses all the trademarks of our house style: no clef changes in the middle of ANY measure, labeled notes above three ledger lines, written-out ornamentation, the re-distribution of various notes into the opposite hand to facilitate a gesture, and a minimum of interpretive markings and multiple voices, so as to make sure you know where each New Note Begins, and less attention paid to how long it lasts. This piece has a repeat at the three-minute mark, which requires a turnback from the top of pg. 3 to the beginning, a bit outside of our usual practice, but unavoidable here, UNLESS one considers that repeat as optional, and avoids it, which Brendel does indeed do. Full running time at our conservative tempo is 13 mins+. Pedal this deeply for a resonant effect on all the sweeping arpeggios, or use it sparingly for a dryer, more early Classical Period sort of effect. MBB
