Designed to accompany congregational singing.Pange lingua gloriosi corporis mysterium is a Medieval Latin hymn attributed to Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) for the Feast of Corpus Christi. It is also sung on Maundy Thursday during the procession from the church to the place where the Blessed Sacrament is kept until Good Friday. The last two stanzas (called, separately, Tantum ergo) are sung at Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The hymn expresses the doctrine that the bread and wine are changed into the body and blood of Christ during the celebration of the Eucharist. It is often sung in English as the hymn Of the Glorious Body Telling to the same tune as the Latin. The hymn is a significant part of the Christian liturgy and is traditionally sung at Vespers and during processions on Corpus Christi and Holy Thursday.

The Three latin motets were composed for the communion service at Oscarskyrkan in Stockholm. They have also been performed at concerts and at various choral competitions throughout Europe. The pieces make up a small suite, where the hymns by Thomas Aquinas frame the ancient Ubi caritas as a centerpiece. Beginning with the epic multi-verse setting of Tantum ergo and ending with the dance-like ritornello structure of O sacrum convivium, the suite makes up a nice ternary form with the warm stillness of Ubi caritas in the middle. While composing, I aimed to evoke the antiquity of the texts by assigning them to mock-plainchant melodies and then treating them in a cantus firmus setting. All three pieces are written in a neo-romantic style. The Tantum ergo is used in veneration of the holy sacrament and consists of the final three stanzas of a longer text, known as the Pange lingua. Piano level: intermediate, but can be simplified by eliminating the octaves in the left hand, and playing only one note of the bass line.Organ: Can be adapted for organ.Teaching: A good teaching piece for students who need to strengthen the hand by playing octaves in the bass. A good example of a moving bass line.This music is appropriate for church services, especially during Exposition and Benediction of the Holy Sacrament.   The arrangement can easily be adapted for organ by playing the lowest notes of the bass clef on the pedals and the higher notes of the bass clef in the left hand. The piano level can be simplified by dropping the lower note of the octave when playing the left hand. The Latin words predate the early 1200s when it was written by St. Thomas Aquinas and go back to the early formation of the Church.

Music and César FranckText by Saint Thomas Aquinas Panis angelicus (Latin for Bread of Angels) is the penultimate strophe of the hymn Sacris solemniis.  Written by Saint Thomas Aquinas for the feast of Corpus Christi as part of a complete liturgy of the feast which includes prayers for the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.   Panis angelicus fit panis hominum; Dat panis cÅ“licus figuris terminum: O res mirabilis! Manducat Dominum pauper, servus et humilis. Thus Angels' Bread is made the Bread of man today: the Living Bread from heaven with figures dost away: O wondrous gift indeed! the poor and lowly may upon their Lord and Master feed. César Franck’s setting of these words is perhaps the most well known.  This arrangement for 2-part choir makes this wonderful piece accessible to choirs of all abilities. When allocating voices, put higher voices (S/T) on the upper part and lower voices (A/B) on the lower part.
