Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.821200 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Gordon Thornett. Folk,World. Octavo. 16 pages. Gordon John Thornett #3018305. Published by Gordon John Thornett (A0.821200). These simple folksong arrangements were made for two community choirs based in Selly Oak, Birmingham, but they would be equally suitable for school choirs or other groups. Included are well known songs from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, which are woven into a continuous piece lasting about 6' 45. The medley starts with the English song, ‘Early one morning’, one verse of which re-appears at the end to round things off. The tradition of singing folk songs in schools and in the community has very much faded away in the UK, but the four songs selected for this medley are likely to be well known and loved by many of the older generation! The simple harmonies range from three to four parts (SAB/SATB), with some unison sections as well.

JB Linear #4364530. Published by JB Linear (A0.582031). Gustav Holst - Folksongs of Hampshire England .   In the early 1900's there was great interest in collecting and preserving the folk songs of England, Scotland, and Ireland. Equipped with their newly invented recording devices, people such as Cecil Sharp, Charles Stanford, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Gustav Holst would travel into the country-side to record, or notate songs being sung. They would frequently use these songs in their own compositions. Holst's music in particular is filled with those songs. This group of four songs was arranged for voice and piano by Holst and set for string orchestra by John Gibson. The songs are 1. Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low 2. Bedlam City 3. The Irish Girl 4. Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323225 Composed by Cornish folk tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Advent,Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred. 10 pages. Con Spirito Music #911489. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1323225). “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen†is an English traditional carol dating, perhaps, to the 16th or 17th century. A manuscript, ca. 1650, contains a version with the first line, “Sit you merry gentlemen†and the refrain, “O tidings of comfort and joy.†The earliest known printed edition of the carol is a London broadsheet dated 1760, in which the first line is the familiar “God rest ye merry, gentlemen.†By the 19th century, the carol was well-known, with Charles Dickens referencing it in his 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol. The phrase “God rest you merry†in the first line is an archaic idiom meaning “God grant you peace and happiness.†William Shakespeare used the phrase “rest you merry†in his plays, “As You Like It†and “Romeo and Juliet,†both from the 1590s; but Dickens recorded the phrase as “God bless you, merry gentlemen†in A Christmas Carol. The tune adapted for use in this arrangement was at the time of its notation a wordless, nameless melody noted in 1905 by folk song collector E. Quintrell from the singing of a Mr. Boaden in Cornwall, England. The tune was sent to Lucy Broadwood, editor of the Journal of the Folk-Song Society, who decided that it fit the ballad, “The Maid in Bedlam,†and published the tune and text together. Gustav Holst later arranged the tune as Song without Words ‘I'll Love My Love’†in his Second Suite in F for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 2 (1911) and again as “I Love My Love†in his 6 Choral Folksongs, Op. 36 (1916). Set in F minor (Dorian), the tune brings a contemplative tone to the text, with the high point of the refrain being the subdominant Bb major chord on the word “joy.†The rich, dark timbre of solo clarinet (part included) on introduction, interludes, and ending adds to this tone. SATB voices (with some divisi on soprano and tenor), piano, Bb clarinet©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Each song is representative of a different style or genre, including dances, romances, work, and religious and songs. Spain has a long history of folk music dating back to the Middle Ages; a tradition that is still very much alive today. The music has been influenced by many different cultures over the centuries and has been the inspiration for musicians across the world.Songs1.Sevillanas are a type of folk song and associated dance for couples, originating in the nineteenth century. Today they are still very popular, particularly at fiestas and  other social events.2.Cabaliño is a Galician work song about a young horse, arranged in the style of a flamenco tango.3. La Petenera is  a combination of two songs in very different styles - a flamenco Petenera from Andalucía and a Mexican son huasteco, a genre that is noteworthy for its flamboyant and virtuoso violin parts.4. Saetas are religious songs that are performed at Easter (Semana Santa).5.There are many hundreds of versions of the old folk tale Gerineldo, telling the story of love between a Queen and her page boy. This Spanish/Jewish version is over 500 years old, from the time when the Moors ruled over much of the Iberian Peninsula.6.Villancico Asturiano is a traditional Christmas carol from Asturias, combined with a setting of a Christmas poem written in the seventeenth century by Robert Herrick for King Charles II of England.7.The lyrics from La Tarara are drawn from the poem of the same name by the Spanish poet Federico Lorca, who based his poem on a traditional children´s playground song. La Tarara is a mystical woman who dances around the countryside.  The music in this version is in the style of a Tanguillo – a type of flamenco dance from Cadiz.
