String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.759588 Composed by Mark Lansom. 20th Century,Celtic,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 72 pages. Mark Lansom #5792285. Published by Mark Lansom (A0.759588). 1. Gogerddan, 2. Robin Ddiog, 3. Cadair Idris, 4. RhosymedreWelsh Folk Song Suite was written in 2011 for Wrexham Schools String Ensemble, though it is an enjoyable challenge for string groups of any age. The notes are mostly straightforward and the rhythms can be taught and learnt. The work is conveniently named, though only the inner movements could be described as a folk song. The first is taken from Edward Jones’s 1794 Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards, whilst the fourth is a famous hymn.Three of the movements share a modernist idiom without often straying from their melodic root. In the final movement ideas from the first two movements return. The slow movement, Cadair Idris, however, stands alone, with much more traditional harmonic roots, and is joined structurally by an original melody. Score and parts included.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522222 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Folk,Holiday. Score. 21 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3913261. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522222). These folk song arrangements are written in the Welsh language. The vocal range is from Middle C to F on the top line of the staff. They are suitable for mezzo soprano and could also be sung by tenor voice an octave lower. They are among some of the most popular folk songs of Wales and sure to be well received at a vocal recital. They would also make excellent encore pieces. For copyright reasons, English translations are not provided, although some are to be found on various web pages. 1. Y Ddau Farch (The Two Mares) The song tells the story of two horses. The older one tells the younger, “In my day I was as good a horse as youâ€. But when I became too old to work, I was sent away to the mountains. She vows never to return to her cruel owners. This is an example of a macaronic song in which the lyrics use more than one language.  2. Si Hei Lwli, ’Mabi (Sleep, my Lovely Baby) In this pentatonic lullaby, a mother tells her child that their ship is moving away, the captain is on board, the eastern wind is blowing and the seagull is on its nest. 3. Canu Cwnsela (Wassail Song) The singers ask permission to come in and sing for their dinner. But they seem to have chosen the wrong house because the reply is: “I have no dinner or money to spend, to give you a welcome tonight.†The melody is in the Dorian Mode.  4. Robin Ddiog (Lazy Robin) The song, also in the Aeolian mode is about a robin whose little house is always tidy. “Open the door a little bit, so that I can see the sea and the waves†he asks. When the door is opened, the breeze sweeps away all the leaves from the floor. 5. Migildi Magildi “When the smithy’s door is open, we can see the blacksmith working.†The song describes the sights and sounds of the blacksmith’s workshop. You can hear all the songs in the audio demo, though they are played by an oboe rather than sung.

Handbell - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.707968 Composed by Welsh Lullaby. Arranged by Kristine Johanek. Concert,Folk,Standards,World. Score. 3 pages. Kristine Johanek #4268687. Published by Kristine Johanek (A0.707968). Suo Gan is a well known Welsh lullaby. This two octave bell arrangement uses 15 bells and is approximately 3 minutes long. It is a step up from a beginner piece, using many 'dotted quarter - eighth' and 'eighth - dotted quarter' patterns in the rhythms. Starting with a lone melody line, it develops into a simply accompanied song with the melody repeated in the treble clef, and then in the bass clef. This gentle tune has been used for many hymns and songs beyond its roots as a lullaby. This is a reproducible product. This piece may be purchased as a score for one performing group, and copies made for the members of that one performing group. Save money and space while allowing for more flexibility in annotating from year to year.

Alto Recorder,Bass Recorder,Soprano Recorder,Tenor Recorder - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1382169 Composed by Emma Arandjelović. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Folk. Recorder Ensemble. 56 pages. Masquerade Music #966699. Published by Masquerade Music (A0.1382169). Published in February 2024, this delightful SATBB recorder quintet brings a refreshing new edition to ensemble repertoire lists. The three movement work (7'20 long total duration) was inspired by the mighty oak tree (Derwen in Welsh) and journeys on an exploration through roots, branches and leaves.Derwen is aimed at confident intermediate to advanced ensembles due to (sometimes) frequently changing time signatures and some more technically challenging phrases but also brings with it beautiful harmonies and changing moods.A note from the composer: The title of this piece, Derwen, is the Welsh word for an oak tree. Trees are traditional symbols of physical and spiritual nourishment or growth, with the oak in particular representing strength and longevity. This seemed to be a fitting inspiration for a commission born out of a long-standing musical collaboration and friendship, and so became the starting point for the composition. The piece begins with a simple melody in the lower voices (the ‘roots’) and gradually builds up the texture. The second movement explores the idea of intertwining branches, reaching higher and higher towards the sky. Finally, an off-balance rhythm in the final movement brings to mind the swirling and falling of leaves, eventually combining with elements from the first two movements to bring the piece full circle. Please view several samples and a full Youtube video (of the complete Sonata) by scrolling through the images. You will receive with this purchase; PDF Recorder parts (soprano/alto/tenor/bass 1/bass 2) PDF Score Derwen is also available as a traditional printed/posted edition, available here: Click here for the printed/posted edition

Guitar Ensemble Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797857 Composed by Traditional Welsh. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Celtic,Children,Folk,Irish. Score and parts. 12 pages. Derek Hasted #6735257. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797857). SUO GÂN - 3 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This Welsh traditional song Suo Gân is a charming lullaby, and drawn to the attention of the wider world by its haunting use in the Spielberg film Empire of the Sun.My setting will suit and early intermediate guitar trio (or large ensemble), and it makes a very playable and contrasting piece in any school or adult concert. I've laid out the preview pages so you can see both a part score and some full score.I have added a few dynamics to mirror the gentle melody and its rise upwards to a lovely cadence and key-change, but this is always a quiet and tender piece.I’ve not added fingering, because although a novice ensemble could take this in the low positions, a more skilled ensemble might enjoy taking the parts up the neck to achieve a rounder and more lyrical tone.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534691 Arranged by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk,Standards,World. Score. 7 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #6234431. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534691). This is an arrangement of the famous Welsh lullaby. This work forvoice and piano is not at all a set of variations on a theme, because the singer sings the same unembelished melody for the four stanzas of the song. The four first measure of the this theme are played once as anintroduction. The piano, however, is asked to create a different atmosphere eachtime the theme returns, replacing the meaning of the words. It is therefore the jobof the singer to find a different way of presenting the same theme, sequence bysequence, which is not entirely the easiest thing to do!t thing to do!
