Key: Eb major.Clark was a late 19th Century pastor, bishop, and hymnist from Wisconsin. Hudson was a Civil War veteran, publisher, and hymnist from Ohio. The words were inspired by the English hymnist Charles Wesley. Sections A and C are the verse. Sections B and D are the chorus. A modulation to a new key occurs towards the end of section B with the help of a French augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is then added.

Hudson.  Copyrights were not yet conceived back then!  The song moves along quite nicely, and finishes with a touch of Barbershop harmony.This arrangement is for 4 part male (TTBB) harmony a cappella.
