Louis Moreau Gottschalk, born in New Orleans, was perhaps the first American musician to make a major international career as piano virtuoso and composer. This good-humored polka is a good example of his character pieces, many of which incorporate Latin American and Caribbean influences.CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. He is a free lance professional violist and violinist specializing in chamber music, who began making string quartet and trio arrangements for wedding, party and corporate events, to expand the repertory or to improve on existing versions. Gibaros are Puerto Rican peasants,and this melody with its complex rhythms is an original folk song.

Bamboula is from Gottschalk's three Lousiana Creole Pieces, composed from 1844 to 1846 by the 19th century superstar pianist and composer born in New Orleans. The shifting moods and cakewalk characteristics made it one of his most popular and enduring works as well as a precursor to ragtime.
