The tune is the traditional American melody PLEADING SAVIOR from Joshua Leavitt's Christian Lyre. Though this song is known by many titles, this title, Rainbow of His Love, corresponds to the lyrics about the rainbow by Flora Kirkland (lyrics sheet included for reference).  The VIOLIN carries the melody for the first verse while the CELLO adds harmony. For the second time through the song (after a short piano interlude), the CELLO carries the melody while the VIOLIN alternates between a descant and harmony. This is a fairly easy and straight-forward arrangement for both instruments and accompanist. The range for each instrument is as follows: VIOLIN – F4 to A5; CELLO – A2 to D4. For both the VIOLIN and CELLO, all notes are playable in the first position making this piece an excellent choice for early intermediate string players. Duration 3:00.
