In the choral parts, an expressive lyricism predominates, revealing Siegfried’s affinity for chant and early music. A balance between accessibility and challenge is maintained throughout. This is the fifth and final movement, Vidimus stellam, based on the Epiphany text, We have seen his star in the East. The organ begins quietly as if in awe, with the same material the choir will sing as Vidimus stellam. The mood remains quiet and adoring until it is interrupted by a majestic restatement of the opening material. A gentler section follows Venit lumen tuum (Your light is come). And again bursting out, the same text is repeated in a grand conclusion to this movement and the entire work.

The performance was recorded as representation of Norwegian culture and uploaded to Youtube in a shared playlist alongside others from around the globe*. The arrangement begins in a similar creepy manner to the original, tip-toeing in and gradually building up to a frightening frenzy. Something of a surprise is in store for the audience after a familiar opening however; a dubstep/drum n bass twist drops in before the melody rejoins in a new fashion, leading on to solo moments for drum kit and timpani. Elements of the original orchestration are again infused into the repeated refrain to intensify the music towards a dramatic final close.Note to conductors:Difficult solo tuba parts are a feature, but a simplified version is also supplied for less advanced players.The soprano cornet, 2nd horn and 2nd baritone parts are supplementary and can be omitted without problem.
