Amazing Grace - Intermediate piano solo Arranged by Elena FortinLately, I have been working on arrangements and videos of songs that I consider to be important either in the way they touch listeners, in how they are used, or if they have stood the test of time.Amazing Grace is a beautiful, traditional hymn with well-known lyrics penned by John Newton. The original hymn was published in 1779, with the words written in 1772. This piece is one of those songs that can be used for many different reasons. It is used in worship services, as a hymn of praise and faith, as celebration of life lived, and as a prayer of thanksgiving.  My arrangement is for the intermediate player. The arrangement is simple, but should be played expressively. Each repetition of the hymn is slightly different, with the second repetition using the harmonic structure but introducing a new invented melody by me. (You can hum the melodic line of Amazing Grace over the top of this second repetition and you'll see what I mean!) The very last repetition is played allargando which means slightly slower, and more broadly. Enjoy those left hand octave notes and full chords! Performers should also feel free to regard all metronome markings as suggestions, and rubato and other expressive interpretations are very much encouraged, even when they are not marked. In phase 3 we go over finger picking and using the capo as well as transposing chords. It starts with little fingers in phase 1 where they can use 1 finger to play 4 simple chords. There are lots of visual aides included as well as a lot of sheet music they can play along to. Phase 2 shows the full form of those chords and also introduces more simple chords. There is sheet music included in this phase as well. You will also learn another strumming pattern. Phase 3 will introduce more chords, learn how to use a capo, more strumming patterns, finger picking, transposing chords to make it easier to play certain songs and to raise pitch etc. This is the full book. You can also purchase the phases separately on here. However, phase 1 has a lot of songs you will miss out on if you skip this phase plus it has a lot of information that won't be repeated about the guitar, etc. I will be putting an mp3 up for sale that you can also purchase to play along with these songs as just playing chords doesn't sound like the song. The Wiggly Tooth is a song for Unison Children's Choir with Piano Accompaniment that talks about a child who discovers they have a wiggly tooth and how they wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle that tooth to get it to come out.  The words and melody are fun and catchy, with a surprise ending for the audience when the tooth finally comes out.  There are two verses and a really fun, catchy chorus.  The accompaniment carries the melody, so this song is suitable for small or young choirs as well.  It also can be used as a solo, and would be great for concerts and music festivals.  I currently do not have it recorded with a choir, but hope to have one of my local music teacher friends record it for me with their choir in the fall after they return to school.

By arranging these Concerti for string quartet and piano I hope to make it possible for more pianists to play them in a chamber setting, and for more audiences to become acquainted with, or reacquainted with, these works of art. The beauty, of these arrangements is that they bridge the gap between playing this concerto in public with a 2nd piano accompaniment, or with full orchestra. They make it possible for pianist and string quartet to reinvigorate the canon of these Concerti without the space, sonic volume, and expenses of full orchestra, thus making it possible to play in a wider variety of smaller and more intimate venues. This in turn creates the opportunity for more audiences to enjoy these works performed more often. I have loved these pieces all my life, and by arranging them in this way the Mozart Piano Concerti will be played more, heard more, and be given the honor they deserve.

This is a fun arrangement for all the instruments in the string quartet. The opening of the arrangement has the cellist using their cello as a percussion instrument (hence the drum in the audio sample), where they can either tap their instrument to create the bass drum sound OR they can chop if they would prefer to not hit their instrument. Home can be a very repetitive song, so the melody gets tossed around to make it interesting for everyone. That being said, it is a very easy arrangement to repeat if you need a little extra time!
