While it was composed in a traditional ABA structure, there are many elements in this composition which are not at all traditional. As the piece awakens, the oboes and flutes seem innocent and coquettish. As orchestral participation grows, one has the sense of an entire field of rich colors growing before our very ears. Enter the piano. Simple, elegant and romantic. Softly supported by the strings, the piano issues an invitation to the winds. They respond cautiously, obviously curious to see what this charming piano has in mind. The strings express an opinion. It's not what the piano wants and he presses harder. The strings and winds question each other, back and forth with triplets. Who is this piano? The mid-section is an announcement by the strings that a love relationship may be in the cards. The piano replies with passion and tenderness.With eighth notes, the strings become entangled with the piano, counseling it, guiding it. The winds using triplets put their two cents on the table. They're not so sure. The piano makes a passionate plea; the strings are supportive. The piano and the winds have a conversation. They finally dance together. There is nothing past an eighth note---no hemidemiquavers--..-The Heritage Series is written to be easy to play and easy to listen to. They all have familiar tunes, sound full, have easy ranges and involve nothing more complicated than an eight note. The object is to produce music and not to display technique. The harmonies, lines and logical counterpoints make these arrangements play well with modest technique. Markings are at minimum to keep things simple. String Bass and Piano must be used to make these arrangements work. The optional acoustic guitar (NOT ELECTRIC) will help the rhythm section. Electric bass could be substituted. If you use an electric bass player, sometimes they can be converted to an upright bass or cello player player( –a devious but legal way to get more players in your school orchestra). This composition was inspired by a cruise of the Mediterranean and visits to Italy, Croatia, and Greece.   I was struck by the age and endurance of the structures and the history of the region.  The hard work and thought that went into the construction of theses incredible buildings  that have survived 1000s of years was amazing.  I describe my musical style as neo polyphonic.  I write each part as a spate melody or counter melody and the harmonization is what occurs naturally as they entwine.    They are usually impressionistic in nature reflecting  some action or scene.  The First movement is my impression of walking on the ancient roman roads. I found them uneven and I I was wobbling all over the place. To me it sounds  like a old wagon with different sized wheels going down the road with other traffic.  The second movement. Is  inspired by the great Cathedrals you find all through Europe.   They are huge open and full of history.  As you wonder through them you can feel the history and the devotion in them.  The third movement  evokes the fast ride of a cavalry unit scouting enemy territory and having a skirmish with and enemy then riding off..  It was inspired by all the history of conflict between the countries  of the Mediterranean.

The Wiggly Tooth is a song for Unison Children's Choir with Piano Accompaniment that talks about a child who discovers they have a wiggly tooth and how they wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle that tooth to get it to come out.  The words and melody are fun and catchy, with a surprise ending for the audience when the tooth finally comes out.  There are two verses and a really fun, catchy chorus.  The accompaniment carries the melody, so this song is suitable for small or young choirs as well.  It also can be used as a solo, and would be great for concerts and music festivals.  I currently do not have it recorded with a choir, but hope to have one of my local music teacher friends record it for me with their choir in the fall after they return to school.

They were looking for a piece they could use for a virtual choir. I'd had the Sing motive of a simple ascending Perfect Fourth in my head for a few days and decided to base the entire piece on it. The text was inspired by the 2020 pandemic situation. Choirs around the world were unable to sing together as they were accustomed due to social distancing needs as a way to slow the viral spread. The text is essentially a directive for everyone to find a way to sing in whatever way you can.
