It was clearly intended to be played by Frederic - a very talented flute player with either Bach playing the violin part or Frederic's flute teacher, Quantz playing the second part on the flute. Between them Bach and Quantz wrote a great many sonatas, concertos and other chamber music for the flute for Frederic to perform.The Duetto is well within the ability of players of about grade 6 ABRSM and is also suitable for pairs of oboes or clarinets.
