The First 5 series is suitable for elementary level performers of all ages. It provides seven pieces which are musically satisfying and fun to play without demanding more than basic technical ability and theoretical knowledge and the first five notes learned on the instrument. Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets in C with Brass Ensemble and Timpani is a rarity for the Baroque era when solos for brass instruments were almost non-existent. The valveless nascent Trumpets were very difficult to play. But as with Bach, there must have been a few brave souls who mastered the instrument and inspired the composer to write his inspired work.

As with most of Vivaldi's concertos, this one begins with a quick and sparkling movement to catch the attention of the audience and to showcase the bright tones of the solo trumpets. This is followed by a contrasting brief and languid second movement. The final movement is back to brilliant mode with quick energy and intricate passages for the soloists. (Encylopedia Britannica).

Niels-Ole Bo Johansen has created a very unique arrangement for the two solo Trumpets with Brass Ensemble and Timpani...unique in that the accompaniment instruments are almost all conical (except for the trombones who can blend nicely into that pool of round sounds). This gives the listener a sharp contrast between the brilliance of the soloists and the plush sound of the accompaniment.

The 6 1/2 minute work is appropriate for advanced performers. The instrumentation is for: 2 solo Trumpets in A, 2 Cornets in B-flat, Flugelhorn, 2 Horns in F, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, 2 Tubas, and Timpani.

SILENT NIGHT - 1/2/3 Bb TREBLE INSTRUMENTS with Piano Accompaniment

This is a flexible arrangement! Suitable for any combination of Clarinet, Trumpet, Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, and Baritone Treble Clef. Could be used for school, church or community.

It can be presented with 1, 2 or 3 instruments (or more!) and it is possible to play 1, 2 or all 3 verses.

The First part plays the melody all the way through and the part is identical on all 3 verses except for the key.

The Second part adds harmony to verses 2 and 3.

The Third part adds an obligato part on the Introduction and Verse 3. (this could be a teacher/adult/advanced student part if the other part(s) are played by students)

Parts for Flute (part 2) and Violin/Glockenspiel (part 1) have been added - just in case!

To contribute to the feel of a Silent Night, the piano part has been kept intentionally simple. Verse 3 can be played without the piano part, if desired, to add dramatic impact to the last verse. You can use any verse by itself, as each is a self-contained unit. If you want the melody alone, you can skip the Introduction to Verse 1 and start right on Measure 5 with the melody (you could even leave out the piano part!) There is an alternate Part 2 that is transposed up an octave for Tenor Saxophone or Clarinet. There is an alternate part 3 that is transposed down an octave. I wanted to provide you with the flexibility to match the parts to the players.

This book aims to put some pieces from the classical Arabic repertoire in a form that can be presented in any classical chamber music concert along with the occidental repertoire, willing to give the Arabic music the opportunity to be performed more often by any professional musician, regardless of his musical background and languages, and to occupy a status in the program of the chamber music concerts worldwide.
