Cowper came up with the tune and Mason did some modifications with it. There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel's veins... discussses the cleansing power of Jesus' blood during the Crucifixion. This is a perfect piece for Good Friday, alter calls, and the like. Section A exposits the hymn. There is a modulation to a new key using a French augmented sixth chord. Section B then includes a descant by yours truly.
