The Twelve Pieces for Two Cellos, containing National Songs & Fugues, Op. 156 by J. J. F. Dotzauer (1783—1860) are possibly the most enjoyable duet collection of the five. Six pieces are fugues, and six are national airs, masterfully arranged for two cellos. Among them we even find the French national anthem, labelled “La Marseillaise ou la Caramagnole�, whose story I had a lot of fun unearthing. All duets are written in bass clef, even if one of them goes up to the sixth position. They are perfect for student concerts or just for learning a few beautiful popular songs, all while travelling the world. From Ireland to Boemia, from France to Scotland, it will be an unforgettable journey! This edition is offered in two versions, Original & Collector’s Edition. The Original version is available in either of the following variants: score only, parts only, and score & parts. It is based on the first edition published by Dotzauer at Breitkopf & Härtel in 1839. The Collector’s Edition adds the new edition of these pieces appeared in the 1890s under the revision of Carl Hüllweck (1852—1910), as well as the first duet as it appears in the 57 Little Duets compiled by Johannes Klingenberg (1852—1905). Since relocating to Southern Chile in 2016, composer Edgar Girtain has been immersed in the music of his adopted home, frequently performing with folk musicians in rural areas through the Los Lagos region. Two Andean Airs draws on a folkmusic style native to northern Chile (cultures of the Andean Plateau). The first piece was drawn from the third of composer's well-known Trios for Flute, Violin and Cello, while the second comes from a suite of Huaynos composed and arranged for a latin-american orchestra ofstudents that the composer co-directs in Puerto Montt. Both are outdoor style pieces, typical of what might be heard performed by brass or pan-flute bands at religious festivals in the deserts of northern Chile.

Arranged clarinet duet (clt/bass clt  with alt clt for bass clt)The French composer Marin Marais composed the tune as a dance for his opera Alcyone of 1706, with the title Marche pour les Matelots.The tune was subsequently included in Raoul Auger Feuillet's 1706 Recueil de contredansealong with a longways proper dance, La Matelotte, which Feuillet had himself written to go with the tune.In 1710 John Essex (d. 1744) published an English translation of Feuillet's work called, For the Further Improvement of Dancing, in which the dance is given as The Female Saylor.The words were written around 1860 while William Morris, then 26, was working as an apprentice in the office of the architect, Edmund Street, presumably under the persuasion of his fellow students who at that time had a taste for part-song. It became known as the Christmas Carol Masters in This Hall (alternative title: Nowell, Sing We Clear) Gustav Holst incorporated the carol into his work Three Carols (1916–17) along with Christmas Song: On this Day and I Saw Three Ships.
