Series of 12 free-character compositions that do not intend to fit into the orthodox and pure style of the Baroque, but rather use these musical elements as simple playful exercises to delight those who composed it and the concern of those who study it. String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.862525 Composed by Michael Bomier. Baroque,Contemporary,Instructional,Sacred,Standards. Score and parts. 11 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2032899. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862525). The Allemande was a German dance form used in many Baroque Era suites. Its characteristic rhythm was the dotted-eighth-sixteenth figure, which is used throughout this piece. The real substance of this composition is not the dance form, however, but the strict and highly evocative use of the ascending and descending forms of the melodic minor scale. Since this was such a Baroque Era staple, I felt the piece had to use Baroque forms, techniques and structures as well. So, the key is D minor. C and Bb going down, B and C# going up. No accidentals but these were used. D minor is not the happiest of keys, and accordingly the mood here is somber. The orchestral texture is NOT rich and lush, like other pieces in the series, but is thinner and more contrapuntally transparent. There are three internal cadences before the ending sequence. Suspensions, voice leading, and dissonances are all treated in a standard Baroque fashion. Bowings by string pedagogue Lori Sandell Lacey. Running time is approx 3 mins 30 secs.at suggested tempo. The piece could certainly go faster if your group can handle it. Each part is but a single page, for easy management of music in rehearsal and performance. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862573 Composed by Michael Bomier. 20th Century,Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 12 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #433519. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862573). 2015 Piano Contest The final movement of this Sonata has a brief introduction, then takes off in a non-stop flurry of arpeggiated, symmetrical, topographically-mirrored chords in contrary motion. The model here is the final Presto from Chopin's Sonata in Bb minor. The effect is a kind of rapid Minimalism, but with more rapid contrasts of colour than typical modern Minimalist piano. The duration is a bit over four minutes. It is best NOT to use the pedal at ALL, as the chords change so rapidly that there is no real need: the continuity will be there! Not a fast version of the 2nd slow movement, but a unique set of chords that provide min-min, maj-maj, aug-aug contrasts and combinations. MP3 MIDI audio. Advanced level at tempo, could be played considerably slower, for a different but manageable effect. MBB.

Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1256429). Although first associated with Psalm 134 in the Genevan Psalter — a collection of metrical psalms created under the supervision of John Calvin for use by Reformed churches in the 16th century — the “Old Hundredth†tune received its name from its association with a metrical setting of Psalm 100 by William Kethe (d. 1594), published in the Anglo-Genevan Psalter (1591). Kethe’s first stanza, based on Psalm 100, verses 1-2, reads:All people that on earth do dwell,Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell;Come ye before Him and rejoice. Thus, the “Old Hundredth†is popularly titled, “All People That on Earth Do Dwell.†It is also well-known as the tune for the doxology, “Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow.†The tune is attributed to the French music theorist and composer Louis Bourgeois (c. 1510-1559), who contributed a number of tunes to the Genevan Psalter. An ideal selection for any celebratory occasion, this festival accompaniment to the “Old 100th†begins with a brass fanfare and statement of the tune, leading into:Verse 1: organ accompaniment (harmonization L. Bourgeois)Verse 2: brass accompaniment (harmonization John Dowland)Verse 3: organ accompaniment (harm. Bourgeois)Verse 4: organ accompaniment (harm. Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862693 By Queen. By Freddie Mercury and Frederick Mercury. Arranged by Michael Bomier. Rock. Score and parts. 68 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #3926193. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862693). Bohemian Rhapsody, the Song of the Moment, the Film of the year, and the piece everyone wants to try and play! Here is a setting for a standard jazz ensemble with ONE main Idea: Let's NOT make this a guitar piece, but a Horn Piece. So, we have all the same structures as the original recording, right down to the time changes, and the shift from slow to fast and back again. The saxes are given the solo vocal line harmonized as a typical sax soli. The brass take Queen's vocal overdubs and operatic elements, and are given a jazz rather than a pop harmonic setting, with some extended and altered harmony, rather than just the triads and 7th chords of the Queen vocal. Sax ranges go to the top of the horn for lead alto, and go to a concert Ab just above the staff for the lead trpt. Trombone goes to a high Bb in the lead solo. First ending should appear at ms. 29 to the repeat. 2nd ending at ms. 35The guitar solos are given to either the piano, in octaves, or the brass, so that a guitar player is an option here, not a necessity. Revised version here, with ending placement errors all fixed up! This is NOT a jazz chart in the improvisational sense: it is a pop song set for a jazz ensemble. Our audio clip shows the opening trombone solo with the piano accomp, into the main vocal line harmonized with saxes. The score precedes the parts in the PDF file, with coverpage and a blank page, so print double-sided until pg. 27. Parts begin at pg. 28 and should be printed single-sided. MBB

Large Ensemble Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818341 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By English Folk Tune, lyrics att Alexander Means, Edwin O Excell, John Newton. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Sacred. 45 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #6233919. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818341). What Wondrous Love is This!arranged for violin and piano by Stephen R Dalrymple transcribed for flute, clarinet, trumpet, euphonium (or trombone), viola, and cello recording performed by Jim Jansen and Stephen R Dalrymple    The lyrics were first published in Lynchburg, Virginia in the 1811 camp meeting songbook A General Selection of the Newest and Most Admired Hymns and Spiritual Songs Now in Use. In most early printings, no author is listed for the text. The 1848 hymnal The Hesperian Harp attributes the text to Alexander means, a Methodist pastor from Oxford    Most sources attribute the hymn's melody to the 1701 English song The Ballad of Captain Kidd, but the melody predates the Kidd tune, however, possibly by more than a century. Camp meeting attendees during the Second Great Awakening would sing the hymns from text only hymnals to a variety of popular melodies. The text and melody were first published together in The Southern Harmony, a book of shape note hymns compiled by William Walker. (excerpted from Wikipedia)    What Wondrous Love is This! is set in the Dorian mode. The mode gives the song a poignant, evocative mood.    What Wondrous Love is This? text attributed to Alexander Means tune attributed to William Walker in The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion (1835)    Amazing Grace text - John Newton 1779 tune - Virginia Harmony 1831 arranged by Edwin O. Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1002835 Composed by Kyle Vanderburg. Contemporary. Score and parts. 112 pages. NoteForge #5793397. Published by NoteForge (A0.1002835). I started writing what would become One Sows for the Benefit of Another Age in 2013, as I was sketching ideas for what became a piano trio. I liked what I had created, but two things became evident: The piece was destined to be for orchestra, and I was not good enough as a composer to finish it. Over the next seven years, I kept returning to this piece in my spare time, adding some sections, tweaking some others, and at some point I gained the experience to finish it. But the trade-off was that I no longer had the time. At least until Spring of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic put most of my projects on hold, and I was able to return to--and finish--the work. The title came last. My ideas while I was writing centered around Americana (I was listening to a lot of Copland, Barber, and Ives) and infusing my history and experience in the Ozarks and on the plains. I knew I wanted to make use of the idea of illumination, of dawn. I wanted to start in the shadows and end aglow. The darkness was such a defining feature that my working title was Aegri Somnia, loosely translated from Latin as troubled dreams. As I continued working, I realized that the focus wasn't the darkness--the focus was the change.I discuss change a lot in my teaching. Students often see change as transformative change--massive, radical, sweeping change, like winning the lottery, or winning an audition. Transformative change is easy--it usually involves hoping for a situation or a Deus ex Machina, and if it happens, it benefits us immediately. Iterative change, however--small, repeated, incremental change that builds up over time--is hard. An extra half-hour of work every day, a little extra contributed to savings every month, these changes add up over time and become significant. But it requires intention and action, and it doesn't reap immediate benefits. It may not end up benefitting us at all.One Sows changes iteratively. It starts from a dark place, but is sprinkled with seeds of hope. A descending motive introduced in the violins brings us out of the darkness, albeit slowly. The idea spreads, develops, and eventually becomes part of a new idea, a new paradigm, that takes over.In searching for a title, I came across Serit ut alteri saeclo prosit, North Dakota's Latin state motto, whose English translation is the title of this work. It's a recent addition to the North Dakota statutes, but a timeless message. Our work isn't finished yet.

Piano Trio,String Ensemble Cello,Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1047344 By Blaze Scheuerman. By Blaze Scheuerman. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 29 pages. Blaze Scheuerman #651902. Published by Blaze Scheuerman (A0.1047344). First love is inspired by my experience with the first partner I ever loved. It is also slightly inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s fugues from the Well Tempered Clavier and Muse’s song “Butterflies and Hurricanes†from the album “Absolutionâ€. It is meant to show the ups and downs of the relationship, especially how the more developed it got the more problems arose. It starts with a cloud-like scene meant to depict mild attraction. It then develops into infatuation in measure 21 as the main character gets to enjoy his experiences with his partner. It lasts for a little while as he finds newer and newer aspects of his partner that he enjoys. He then returns to a moment of stability with the restatement of the opening theme, and then tries again to get back into those moments of bliss. But this time something goes wrong. The character doesn’t quite realize it until it is too late, but a rift appears in the relationship. This is shown in the D Minor section, as the main character is sad and longing for things to go back to how they were, but is just stuck. After a while of trying different things, a settlement is reached and the two get closer again in the relationship, seen in measure 174. Except this time things are different, they are close to the bond shown earlier, except not quite there. This can be seen with the rearrangement of voices in regards to the melody, such as the cello having the melody except the violin in measure 190. Although the two try their best, the relationship once again reaches a rift between the two, seen with the reemergence of the D Minor section. They try once again to patch things up, but end up becoming unsuccessful and breaking apart. The final sections starting at measure 246 depict the sadness and anger that follow, before eventually reaching a resolution back into the home key of F Major.
