Large Ensemble Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe,Percussion - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.555864 Composed by Edmund Angerer - ascribed variously to Joseph Haydn, Leopold Mozart, Michael Haydn, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Rainprechter. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Children,Christmas,Classical,Standards. Score and parts. 52 pages. RayThompsonMusic #6047585. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.555864). This work was long reputed to be the work of Joseph Haydn, but later scholarship suggested that it was actually written by Leopold Mozart. Its authorship is still disputed, however, and other composers have been proposed as the symphony's true author, including Joseph Haydn's younger brother Michael Haydn, who purportedly contributed movements to the work.Recent research on a newly found manuscript suggests the Austrian Benedictine monk Edmund Angerer (1740–1794) to be the author. If Angerer's manuscript (from 1765, entitled Berchtolds-Gaden Musick) is the original, the Toy Symphony was originally written not in G but rather in C. These findings, however, are disputed among scholars. There is reason to believe that the true composer will likely never be known, in whole or in part, given its confused origins and the paucity of related manuscript sources.Even without a name attached to it, the piece has become a mainstay for children's shows and Christmastime concerts. Each of its three movements features the sounds of actual toys and instruments that sound like they came straight from Geppetto's workshop. The piece calls for a toy trumpet, ratchet, nightingale, cuckoo, drum, and triangle. ( A quail makes it’s only appearance in the 2nd movement.Noisemakers rattle throughout the first of its three movements. The cuckoo and trumpet  call out mischievously during the minuetto of the second movement , and a quail joins the nightingale in the trio. In the short third mvt which is played 3 times, they all play again, each repeat faster than the previous one.The presence of the toy instruments make this a fun piece for children to play, especially when there are also some toys waiting under the tree.My arrangement is based on the Kinder-Symphonie attributed to Leopold Mozart. It is scored in C.it is in 3 mvts and is arranged for double wind quintet, bass and toy percussion.i have distributed the original strings around the woodwind, and composed original classical horn parts.Sometimes known as Children’s Symphony.

Small Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Bass Guitar,Drums,Piano,Tenor Saxophone,Trombone,Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.734766 Composed by Joseph Hasper. Jazz. Score and parts. 61 pages. Joseph Hasper #2907353. Published by Joseph Hasper (A0.734766). Turn up the heat with this funk groove and turn the rhythm section loose. Scored for trumpet, sax (tenor sax with alto sax substitute part), trombone, guitar, piano, bass and drums. The sax part is scored for tenor sax but includes an alto sax substitute, so you can use either horn without sacrificing a thing. The rhythm section calls for guitar, piano, bass, and drums. On the recording I only went through the solo section once (with a sax solo), but open solo space is cued for each instrument.Bringing the guitar player more into the forefront of the jazz combo is something I've been working on all year, starting with charts like M Groove where the chart calls for a rock 'n roll type guitar sound. Three Hundred Thousand Degrees extends that concept, giving the guitar some extra room to growl and contribute a nice crunch to the combo.Includes a full score and all parts. 61 pages (24 pages score, 37 pages parts). Open solo space cued in all instruments. Duration: 4’45 (without repeating solo section). .

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1455063 Composed by Joseph Hasper. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 26 pages. Joseph Hasper #1034135. Published by Joseph Hasper (A0.1455063). Twelve short movements for wind ensemble by Joseph Hasper composed in 2024. Program notes: Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik the rich tapestry of harmonic possibilities across all twelve keys. Each movement is a concise musical vignette, delving into the unique character and mood of its respective key while reflecting a post-modern approach that embraces eclecticism, irony, and an intertextual dialogue with past musical traditions. This work is deeply influenced by the innovative spirit of Leonard Bernstein and Charles Ives, two iconic American composers who challenged conventional musical boundaries. Bernstein's ability to seamlessly blend diverse musical genres, from classical to jazz, resonates in the stylistic pluralism of this piece. Each movement offers a distinct musical landscape, reminiscent of Bernstein's kaleidoscopic score for West Side Story, where classical and contemporary idioms collide and coalesce into a vibrant sonic tapestry. Echoes of Charles Ives can be heard in the fragmented, juxtaposed themes and the adventurous harmonic language that defies traditional expectations. Like Ives' Three Places in New England, this composition revels in the collision of disparate musical elements, creating a rich tapestry that reflects the complexity and plurality of the modern musical landscape. Ives’ technique of layering different melodies and harmonies simultaneously is reflected in several movements where multiple key centers overlap, creating a soundscape that is at once disorienting and captivating. Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik, Tik invites listeners to experience a post-modern journey through sound, where each movement stands as an independent piece, yet contributes to a greater whole. The brevity of each segment—each capturing a distinct emotional and harmonic essence—echoes the concept of musical snapshots, offering a fleeting yet profound exploration of the vast possibilities within the twelve keys. This work is not merely a cycle through the keys, but a commentary on the diversity and potential of musical expression in the post-modern era.

Score and part. 17 pages. Jmsgu3 #3473581. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549240). Flight of the Bumblebee from Korsakov's Tale of Tsar Saltan Score: 11 pages, Solo part: 3 pages, Piano accompaniment part: 3 pages. Duration: ca. 1:15 Amaze your listeners with this short but great recital encore! Flight of the Bumblebee Flight of the Bumblebee is, to be sure, an orchestral interlude composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Korsakov, of course, intended to musically portray the chaotic flying pattern of a bumblebee. Nowadays, this piece is one of the comparatively more famous classical works because it frequently appears from time to time in popular culture. In the opera, the piece appears notably at the close of Act III, Tableau 1. This is when the magic Swan-Bird, in fact, changes the Prince (the son of the Tsar) into a bee so he can fly away to visit his father. Interestingly, at this point in the drama, his father, in effect, does not know that he is alive.   Korsakov Background Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844 –1908) was a uniquely famous composer from Russia. He was likewise a member of an infamous assembly of composers called The Five. Korsakov was furthermore an expert in orchestration. His correspondingly most famous orchestral compositions-Capriccio Espagnol, the Russian Easter Festival Overture, and the Scheherazade suite-are important monuments of the standard music repertoire.  Also, comparatively very important are his suites and excerpts from his 15 operas. Korsakov was moreover fond of using Russian folklore and fairy tales in his music, such as Scheherazade.  Nationalistic Style Korsakov believed, similarly to fellow outspoken composer Balakirev, in creating a nationalistic, Russia-centric style of classical music. The new style was in fact called Orientalism. It similarly relied on native Russian materials, exotic scales, and experimental harmonic, melodic and rhythmic procedures. This practice, conversely, ran counter to the developments in Western musical culture. Musical Developments Nevertheless, Korsakov developed an appreciation of Western musical techniques after he became a professor of musical composition, harmony, and orchestration at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1871. Moreover, he undertook a rigorous three-year program of self-education and mastered Western methods, incorporating them in conjunction with the influences of Mikhail Glinka and other members of The Five. His techniques of composition and orchestration were additionally enriched by his exposure to the works of Richard Wagner. Naval Service Korsakov combined his music career accordingly with a career in the Russian military. He was in the first place an officer in the Russian Navy. In due time, he was appointed as a civilian Inspector of Naval Bands. As a result, Korsakov expanded his knowledge of woodwind and brass playing, which in turn heightened his capabilities in orchestration. Legacy Korsakov in due time contributed a significant number of Russian nationalist works. He also prepared, from time to time, compositions by The Five for presentation. This brought their works straightaway into the active classical repertoire as well. He also shaped an entire generation of younger composers during his time as a music educator. Therefore, music historians consider Korsakov as the foremost engineer of what the public considers to be the Russian style of composition. He served, all in all, as a transitional figure between The Five and the classically trained composers who became the norm over time. In addition to the Russians, he forthwith influenced non-Russian composers such as Ravel, Debussy, Dukas, and Respighi.

Harpsichord - Digital Download SKU: A0.1108689 By Arturo Escorza. By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Arturo Escorza. Classical. Full Performance. Duration 506. Arturo Escorza #711337. Published by Arturo Escorza (A0.1108689). In 1993, Frances Rauscher, et al, published a study in which they attributed a temporary improvement (of around 15 minutes) in mental tasks such as those found in IQ tests... Now, my criticism goes further: the piece in question is the Allegro con spirito from Sonata for two pianos in D minor KV. 448 by Mozart, so far so good. If we look at the original score, Mozart does not mention pianos, nor their ancestor, the fortepiano, but clavicembalos, i.e. harpsichords. In modern music, the A4 is tuned to 440 Hz and the scale is divided into 12 semitones of identical distance between each of them, causing that the only pure interval between them is the octave and that the others are impure and cause unpleasant interferences. In past centuries, other temperaments were used to tune the scales, with more pure, harmonic intervals, without interferences, although the intervals between semitones were some larger than others, which is why there are compositions in different tones, because according to the temperament it provoked different sensations, but with the modern equal temperament that's part of the past... the equal temperament killed the harmony and the colors of the music as its composers imagined it, as they heard it. What's this all about? to which I have recorded the piece of the supposed Mozart Effect approaching what Mozart had in mind: with two harpsichords, both with the A4 tuned to 421.6 hz, according to the Steiner tuning fork, used at the time of composition of the piece in Vienna, (note: it's not enough to tune the A4 but also to tune the intervals), and tuned in the Kirnberger III temperament. Some intervals may seem out of tune to modern ears, but it is one of so many historical temperaments used in those times.

Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.31154EB). ISBN 9781513473901. 8.75X11.76 inches.Practicing scales is essential to building and maintaining strength, technique, tone, and agility on the viola, but it is easy to slip into the habit of playing scales automatically, without paying attention to tonality or sound production. The 29 single-page studies in this book focus the attention of violists on the beauty of sound, with a particular concern for the way different keys resonate on the viola. The first 24 studies address all minor and relative major keys and proceed through the circle of fifths; the last 5 pieces are individually conceived, i.e., apart from the circle of fifths. No metronome indications are given, so the etudes can be played at individually comfortable tempos. The names of the etudes refer to various animals that have scales, including insects, fish, birds, reptiles, and a few species of mammals. The author hopes that in addition to experiencing more enjoyable scale practice, students will be inspired to learn more about these amazing creatures and write scale studies of their own.

Guitar (classical) - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: M0.30072EB Composed by Rovshan Mamedkuliev. Arranged by Rovshan Mamedkuliev. Solos/Studies, World. European. E-book. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #30072EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.30072EB). ISBN 9781619114654. 8.75x11.75 inches. This collection contains arrangements by one of the leading guitarists of the new generation, Rovshan Mamedkuliev. Rovshan invites guitar lovers to explore Russian music of the 19th century. Alexander Borodin (1833 - 1887), member of the famous Mighty Handful, wrote his Petite Suite for the piano. The four pieces presented in this collection barely utilize any of the piano's idiomatic techniques. Though unfamiliar to the guitar until the present day, the selected miniatures are wonderfully suited to its technical and timbral capabilities, especially Serenade. Thanks to the clearly defined genre of Nocturne, the vivid imagery of Reverie and the folk colour and bell-like melodiousness of In the Cloister, the four pieces, rich in quality and substance, will be a valuable contribution to the guitar repertoire. Anatoly Lyadov (1855 - 1914) used to joke that he could not stand more than five continuous minutes of music. The genius of musical miniature created his compositions to be laconic and refined in form, simple yet elegant. Lyadov's contemporaries called his pieces tiny pearls of finest finishing and compared the composer himself to a jeweler. His three preludes from op.36, op.39, and op.40, will become a fulfilling experience for the guitarist as the music explores the rich palette of the mysterious Russian soul, ranging from stormy aspirations to dreamlike, elegiac moods - expressed by the composer in but a few sounds.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.979772 Composed by Anon. Arranged by Robert Luke Thompson. Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday,Renaissance,Traditional. Score and Parts. 44 pages. Monkspath Music #6079181. Published by Monkspath Music (A0.979772). The Coventry Carol originates from a medieval mystery play entitled The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors. The play depicts the Christmas story, from the Annunciation (where the Angel Gabriel appears to Mary), to the Massacre of the Innocents (where King Herod of Judea orders the death of all male infants near Bethlehem under the age of two). It is this tale that the Coventry Carol depicts, taking the form of a lullaby sung by the mothers of the murdered children. As is appropriate, the music is in a minor key – this arrangement uses G minor and D minor as a homage to well-known harmonisations by Thomas Sharp and Henry Walford Davies. It is unknown when the words were first set to music, but a proposed date is 1591, or earlier! Other interesting musical features include the use of a ‘Picardy third’, and ‘false relations’, contributing to the haunting quality of this enduring piece, both in the heart of the English Midlands, and further afield. This arrangement is suitable for all orchestras of beginner-intermediate ability or higher. There is plenty of interest for both experienced players, and for newcomers. The instrumentation is designed to facilitate both a full sound, but also for flexibility, which is often desired by school, youth, and amateur orchestras.
