The traditional musical element that uses both these intervals is the octotonic or diminished scale. So, this material figures prominently in the first section, accompanied by alternating major and minor sevenths. The piece uses mirrored and symmetrical passages in 7ths next, followed by the opposite smaller intervals. Rolled mirrored clusters, symmetrical open chords, every possibility is explored here, each aspect showing its own identity. The intervallic unity gives the piece, and ALL the pieces in this series, a continuity that binds the disparate pianistic applications together into unified and identifiable musics. Some chords respelled, some notes assigned to the opposite hand. What editing HAS been done is to remove and replace most of the flying LH octaves, using just the low or the high note, leaving the shape of the line intact, but eliminating all the leaping about. There are both American and European editions of this piece which are so laden with graphic information outside the realm of pitch initiation such that it is nigh onto impossible just to read this thing, given its key signature, which would NOT, as some might feel, have benefited from being transliterated into Eb minor. So, this is the best GateWay can do to make this WAY COOL piece at least accessible. Note that there are ZERO 10ths in the piece, and the octaves, whilst persistent, are as wide as you will have to span. Pedal it like a wild horse! MBB.

All-original notes here, but with some respelled chords, No Fb major to Bbb major, for example, and clear syncopation throughout. It is paginated to lay across a music desk with four sheets showing at once. So, print it single-sided for ease of reading, practise and performance. MBB.
