Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774328 Composed by Brad Esbensen. Arranged by Brad Esbensen. Blues,Jazz. Score and Parts. 63 pages. Brad Esbensen Music Services #3245847. Published by Brad Esbensen Music Services (A0.774328). BLUES FOR MR. BUMP is an original composition for big band and featured as a set piece for the 2002 Australian Academy Festival of Music C Grade Jazz Ensemble division. This arrangement will work equally with a reduced ensemble, as indicated on title page of the score. The arrangement begins with a short intro from the rhythm section followed by a unison statement of the head from the full ensemble.  This gives the players a chance to become familiar with the tune and provides an opportunity to work on intonation and to tighten up phrasing and articulation. Rhythm section parts are fully notated to assist younger players. An open solo section, with changes marked on every part, is included at measure 41. Use this space to feature soloists in the group and encourage all to try their hand at improvising. Encourage students to listen to the great jazz players to help them learn the language of jazz and develop their own ideas.  Solo sheets containing written solos along with a guitar chord shapes chart are also included. www.bemus.com

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.979662 Composed by Roger Aldridge. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and parts. 9 pages. Roger Aldridge #484937. Published by Roger Aldridge (A0.979662). This composition for 5 wind instruments and soloist explores interplay between structure and freedom. It is based on an 11-tone harmonic complex and a series of tonal effects providing backgrounds to, and interactions with, the soloist. The role of the soloist is entirely improvised. The soloist can conceivably be any instrument. Additionally, the soloist does not have to be limited to one musician. It can be expanded to multiple musicians -- up to the size of a small band (any genre). Any creative possibility can be explored. I envision this composition as being a framework for a collective creative process to take place between the soloist, conductor, and ensemble with each interacting with the others. In this way, the score is a point of departure for wherever the musicians want to take the music. PARTS: Smaller Ups And Downs does not have a set of parts. Since this piece is instruction-based and has minimal music notation, performers use individual copies of the concert pitch score and transpose their notes. Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1494312 By Pat Thomas. By Antonio Carlos Jobim and Newton Mendonca. Arranged by Philip Coe. 20th Century,Jazz,Latin. 33 pages. Phil Coe #1070908. Published by Phil Coe (A0.1494312). This arrangement for Jazz Orchestra is a Guitar feature that opens with a very simple guitar and drums samba setup. The ensemble enters with a stronger statement that builds to the head. The guitar plays the A section of the head in octave or single notes. The bridges section swings as a single eighth note guitar line. The background starts with the sax section followed with counterpoint between the trumpet and trombone sections. The second time through the form, Tenor Sax 1 solos over the first half changes and background. The guitar takes over solo on the last half of the form which leads into an echo of the intro and builds up to the shout chorus. The shout builds to a melodic trumpet high D followed by an obvious quotation by the ensemble. Repetition of the ensemble intro with a main theme fragment is followed by brass pyramids and a final theme stinger to close out the piece. 160 bpm per quarter note is a suggested tempo but the piece can be taken faster for more excitement and energy. The piece is written in 4/4 for the swing bridge section. The samba sections should be felt in 2/2 with the accent on the 2. The quarter note always stays the same.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.564336 Composed by Duke Ellington and Lee Gaines. Arranged by Ryan Gabbart. Jazz,Standards. Score and parts. 77 pages. Ryan Gabbart #173192. Published by Ryan Gabbart (A0.564336). Grade 3. 4:30 duration. F major with a modulation to A-flat major. Scored for 5-4-4 with soli parts for 1st alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone. Rhythm section is guitar, piano, bass, drum set. This arrangement of a Duke’s “Just Squeeze Me†is written for an emerging beginner-to-intermediate jazz ensemble. Featuring solo piano with everything written out for the learning young player: including suggested comping and an optional written solo. In addition to this, a soli quartet consisting of all lead horn players will allow these voices to shine as they tackle more complicated rhythms and style. The soloist ensemble writing plus the key change near the end will provide ample challenges for your high school or younger college ensemble to work on as they develop their sense of swing. This one is a definite crowd pleaser!

Published by Brad Esbensen Music Services (A0.774326). CLAIRE’S DILEMMA is an original composition for big band and featured as a set piece for the 2004 Australian Academy Festival of Music A Grade Jazz Ensemble division. It is a lively, up-tempo number that gives the ensemble a good workout. Featuring a catchy melody and bop-style figures that will keep the sax and trumpet sections on their toes. The solo sections, loosely based on 'Rhythm changes, provide space for the 1st Trombone, 1st Tenor Sax, 1st Alto Sax and 2nd Trumpet players. While players should be encouraged to develop their own solos, written suggestions have been included on separate sheets and may be used to provide a starting point for less experienced improvisers. The chart features a dynamic, Basie-style shout chorus providing the perfect opportunity to show off a tight and exciting ensemble sound. Take care in the final 9 measures of the piece to make sure rhythms and shot notes are accurately placed. www.bemus.com

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1472109 By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Mike Dana. Jazz,Latin,Pop. 66 pages. Mike Dana Music #1049808. Published by Mike Dana Music (A0.1472109). About the piece: Welcome to the second chart I’ve done on a Beatles tune! I guess, because the first one (Can’t Buy Me Love) went so well, I had to keep it going ? (shameless plug alert: CBML is available from both sheetmusicdirect.com and sheetmusicplus.com.) And I Love Her is a great tune, and I tried to find some creative ways to expand on that. It features your most lyrical flugel player, and you’ll need woodwind doubles: 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, and bass clarinet.  Ensemble: This is pretty straightforward: even 8th, bossa-ish vibe. Trumpets 1, 3, and 4 are on flugels full-time, except for the harmon trumpet bit in mm. 70-75. I feel the 5/4 bars as 2+3, and would conduct accordingly. Overall, think mellow, understated, warm/fuzzy on this.  Rhythm Section: I really hear nylon string guitar on this, so please ask your guitarist to bring the extra axe. ?  Piano, guitar, and bass: If there’s a notated paty without chord symbols, please play as written. If it’s chord symbols only, play/comp tastefully, as always. If there are both, you can do either. If the written part supports the ensemble, I’d suggest going that route. I LOVE having guitar and vibes in the rhythm section, but in general I’m not a big fan of having them play off of the same part. So, please observe the “play only if no guitar (or vibes etc.) indications. Drums, I’ve indicated some basic grooves (note the feel change in the bridge) but I trust you. Just keep things tasty and understated. Solo Section: Flugel solo…after the first read-through, you’ll know when it’s just you on the melody, and when your part is doubled. Feel free to play more expressively on the former. There are some short snippets of changes mixed in with the melodic statements; think of these more like fills than the official “solo section” which is mm. 50-80, the AAB of the form. Don’t swing for the fences in spots like mm. 44-48; instead, float on top of the ensemble sound. And, keep things simple from n. 91 out. ? As of this writing, I don’t have a recording of this, other than the MIDI demo. If you end up with a nice recording and would be OK sharing that with me, please reach out!

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.827144 Composed by Bob Marshall. Jazz,Latin. Score and parts. 75 pages. Bob Marshall #2920511. Published by Bob Marshall (A0.827144). Transport your audience back to the psychedelic, hippiest Age of Aquarius with this Jazz Band original by Bob Marshall. Reminiscent of Woody Herman's The Herd, Don Ellis Big Band, Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Band and others, Marshall perfectly captures the style and drive of those bands in that era with The Dream Maker. After a rhythmic, full ensemble intro, the piece settles into a fluid melody featuring Flugelhorn (a la Chuck Mangione). The melody restates with a soli of 2 trumpets and 2 trombones before going into a driving soprano sax lead section soli. But wait, it's not over yet: the ensemble breaks down to just the rhythm section in unison. Adding sections one at a time the chart continues to build to a roaring climax before a D.S. that features a wailing tenor sax solo. Restating the melody once more and a big outro The Dream Maker ends the journey and all is well! Written for a standard 17-piece jazz ensemble: 5 saxes (Tenor 1 doubling Soprano Sax), 4 trumpets (2nd doubling Flugelhorn), 4 trombones, guitar (acoustic), electric bass, piano, drums. Key of Ab.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1509330 By Wayne Shorter. By Wayne Shorter. Arranged by Alberto Mandarini. 20th Century,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Jazz,Standards. 47 pages. Alm@music #1083972. Published by Alm@music (A0.1509330). Jazz Ensemble / Big Band - Grade 3.5Instrumentation: Full Score; Alto Sax 1; Alto Sax 2; Tenor Sax 1; Tenor Sax 2; Baritone Sax; Trumpet 1; Trumpet 2; Trumpet 3; Trumpet 4; Trombone 1; Trombone 2; Trombone 3; Bass Trombone; Guitar; Piano; Bass; Drums. With the arrangement of Wayne Shorter's Infant Eves, I officially start the series dedicated to the most typical orchestral ensemble in jazz: the Big Band. The instrumentation is the traditional one: 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm section (guitar, piano, double bass and drums). After a brief introduction, in which the double bass moves freely over an orchestral accompaniment, the exposition of the initial part of theme A is entrusted to the first trombone, followed by the saxophone section and then the trumpet section (B).This all flows into the last section of the theme (C), in a robust brass ensemble to which the saxophones respond with simple counterpoint phrases. The last four bars, again entrusted to the saxophones, gradually lead us to the solo section. The latter is developed over a chorus and a half, and each of the soloists is given one of the four sections (A, B, C, A): the first is by the first trombone (the arrangement's main soloist), the second by the first alto saxophone, while the third features the orchestra in a short nine-bar special, where the three sections chase and chase each other. The final solo part is then entrusted to the second trumpet, which gives way to the orchestra for the reprise of the remaining two sections of the theme as well as the inevitable coda.Altogether, the arrangement spans three complete choruses, plus the introduction and coda, for a total duration of just under seven minutes.I hope you enjoy this arrangement and, as always, I wish youGood Music!!!am.
