Oboe and piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q5189 Composed by Hans Gal. This edition: Sheet music. Oboe Library. Downloadable. Op. 85. Duration 22 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q5189. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q5189). Throughout his career the Austrian composer and musicologist Hans Gál (1890–1987) wrote a number of operas, orchestral works, concertos and vocal pieces, and during the latter part of his life he concentrated particularly on chamber music. In addition he published books and essays on composers such as Brahms, Schubert and Verdi. Forced to emigrate from Germany in 1933, Gál finally settled in Edinburgh, where he taught at the University, and continued to compose for the rest of his long life. His Oboe Sonata is a valuable addition to the repertoire. The three movements, like all Gál’s works, are rooted in the late Romantic period.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1091551 Composed by George Gershwin. 20th Century,Classical,Film/TV,Jazz. Score and parts. 253 pages. Szüts Apor #695728. Published by Szüts Apor (A0.1091551). In 1930, George Gershwin, together with his brother Ira, was invited to go to Hollywood to provide the music for the film Delicious. He spent seven weeks on the score only to find that just four songs (Blah, Blah, Blah; Delicious; Katinkitschka; Somebody from Somewhere), a five-minute Dream Sequence and one minute from a six-minute orchestral sequence called New York Rhapsody would be incorporated in the film. When he went back to New York in February 1931, George had decided to use the material from the six-minute sequence to work into a concert piece and had sketched some of it. Some of the material was jettisoned: the Manhattan Rhapsody opens with the main romantic theme in 6/8 time arranged for piano and solo cello. The rest of the film sequence was radically rearranged and rescored. Gershwin completed the fourteen-minute piece by May. The new work was titled Rhapsody in Rivets during his sketching, but later he could not decide between New York Rhapsody and Manhattan Rhapsody. George Gershwin settled on Second Rhapsody.

Large Ensemble Choir - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899601 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by C Blankenship. Baroque. Score and parts. 81 pages. C Blankenship #4984983. Published by C Blankenship (A0.899601). Messiah (HWV 56) is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible, and from the version of the Psalms included with the Book of Common Prayer. It was first performed in Dublin on 13 April 1742 and received its London premiere nearly a year later. After an initially modest public reception, the oratorio gained in popularity, eventually becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. Handel's reputation in England, where he had lived since 1712, had been established through his compositions of Italian opera. He turned to English oratorio in the 1730s in response to changes in public taste; Messiah was his sixth work in this genre. Although its structure resembles that of opera, it is not in dramatic form; there are no impersonations of characters and no direct speech. Instead, Jennens's text is an extended reflection on Jesus Christ as Messiah. The text begins in Part I with prophecies by Isaiah and others, and moves to the annunciation to the shepherds, the only scene taken from the Gospels. In Part II, Handel concentrates on the Passion and ends with the Hallelujah chorus. In Part III he covers the resurrection of the dead and Christ's glorification in heaven. Handel wrote Messiah for modest vocal and instrumental forces, with optional settings for many of the individual numbers. In the years after his death, the work was adapted for performance on a much larger scale, with giant orchestras and choirs. In other efforts to update it, its orchestration was revised and amplified by (among others) Mozart. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries the trend has been towards reproducing a greater fidelity to Handel's original intentions, although big Messiah productions continue to be mounted. String Ensemble,String Trio - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.913984 Composed by Arthur Breur. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 15 pages. Floating Home Music #4819957. Published by Floating Home Music (A0.913984). Glacier Bay for String Trio. An audio impression of the experience of being in Glacier Bay. This is the premier performance of Glacier Bay by String Trio Black Diamonds - just one day after Arthur Breur composed the piece and provided the trio with the score and parts. They performed the piece in the atrium of the Norwegian Sun on July 3, 2016. With gratitude to Captain Richard Svardmark and the entire crew of the Norwegian Sun. Arthur Breur composed Glacier Bay in a single day on the Cruise Ship Norwegian Sun as it toured Glacier Bay, Alaska. Waking very early that day, Arthur was greeted with foggy, gray, mysterious views in an eerie northern twilight, and the mood set him immediately to composing. As he often does, he started by constructing the ten letters of the name Glacier Bay into musical notes. He divided these ten notes into three similar musical motifs, first three notes [G-E-A], then four notes [C-B-E-D], then three notes again [B-A-D]. These motifs open the piece, in a section that represents the eerie, misty, wet, half-lit morning. Then-expressing wonder and excitement upon seeing the beauty and majesty of Alaska’s glaciers-the motifs are connected with moving lines of notes that turn the original disconnected motifs into a flowing, uplifting melody. Between stops at the enormous bay’s different glaciers, the ship moved slowly through foggy vistas. The middle section of the piece represents this with a more dissonant, nervous sound. (Listen carefully for the sound of the ship’s fog horn-which really is a low F-sharp!-played by the cello.) But after passing through the fog, there was another awe-inspiring glacier, and so the music returns to the uplifting, flowing melody once again. Glacier Bay for String Trio Composed for the String Trio Black Diamonds: - Tamara Sieviieva - Mykyta Denysov - Anastasia Gorokhova  *** Upon waking to a mysterious foggy morning on the Norwegian Sun cruise ship in Glacier Bay, Alaska, I was almost immediately possessed by my Muse. (That’s the only way I can describe it; every moment that I was not composing-even WHILE looking at the beautiful, awe-inspiring glaciers! - I was hearing the melody in my head and aching to compose.)  *** Duration: 5m Composer: Arthur Breur Instruments: Violin, Cello, String Trio, String Trio (vn-vn-vc) Format: Score, Set of Parts Genres: 21st Century, Contemporary Classical, Post-Romantic, Neo-Classical Level: Intermediate https://www.floatinghomemusic.com

Woodwind quintet - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CMW183 Composed by Septimus Winner. Arranged by Judith Katz. Score and Parts. 17 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CMW183. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMW183). 9 x 12 in inches. In my search for American composers who were active in the mid to latter part of the 19th Century, I've recently discovered the name, Septimus Winner.Winner, (1827-1902) was a Philadelphia-based song writer and publisher, credited with over 200 method books for a wide variety of instruments, as well as 1500 easy arrangements, and 2000 arrangements specifically for violin and piano. He teamed up with his brother to publish music, and he, himself, had numerous publications both under his own name, and pseudo names: Alice Hawthorne, Percy Guyer, Mark Mason, Apsley Street, and Paul Stenton. Some of his compositions have become classics, and helped to seal his fame as a major song writer of the pre, Tin Pan Alley era. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. Among his most famous compositions are: Listen to The Mockingbird, published under the name of Alice Hawthorne, Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone, and Ten Little Indians, which was performed a lot in Europe, and later used as an inspiration for Agatha Christie for her book of the same name; sometimes referred to And Then There Were None.Silver Wedding March was originally written for parlor piano, which ends itself beautifully to small instrumental ensemble combinations. I chose woodwind quintet.

Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1372047 Composed by Carl Stamitz. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Wedding. Saxophone Duet. 14 pages. Jmsgu3 #956264. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1372047). The significance of Stamitz Duets Op. 27 lies in their contribution to the duet repertoire for two violins (or two flutes). Composed by Carl Stamitz, a prominent figure of this era, the duets were published in 1780. These duets are well-regarded for their musicality and are popular choices for duet performances and educational purposes. They are available in sheet music and have been performed in concerts and recordings, reflecting their enduring appeal and importance in the classical music domain. The duets are known for their melodic and expressive qualities, making them valuable for developing ensemble playing and musical interpretation skills. They are also appreciated for their historical significance in the context of classical music composition and the repertoire for violin or flute duets. Carl Stamitz, born in 1745 and passing away in 1801, was a significant figure in music history, particularly in the classical period. He was one of the most prolific Mannheim orchestral composers, known for writing numerous symphonies, concertos for various instruments, and other instrumental works. Stamitz's influence on the evolution of the Classical sonata form by introducing contrasting themes within a single movement is also noteworthy. He was a prominent representative of the second generation of the Mannheim School, and his contributions to the duet repertoire for two violins or two flutes are highly regarded for their musicality and historical significance. Despite not being as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, his work has left a lasting impact on the classical music domain.Carl Stamitz significantly contributed to the Mannheim School of Music as the most prominent representative of its second generation. He was the eldest son of Johann Stamitz, a violinist and composer considered the Mannheim School's founder. Carl Stamitz's contribution to the school included his role as a prolific orchestral composer, writing numerous symphonies, concertos for various instruments, and other instrumental works. His work, along with other members of the Mannheim School, helped solidify the Classical symphony and its dynamic contrasts, impacting the evolution of the classical music period. Carl Stamitz's choice of the viola as his favorite instrument and his compositions for the viola also contributed to the school's legacy.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1145793 Composed by Giacomo Puccini. Arranged by Juan José Peláez Vilanova. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Opera,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 43 pages. John Joseph #745992. Published by John Joseph (A0.1145793). Giacommo Puccini, represents the union of Italian and German opera traditions, greatly influenced by Verdi, of whom he is considered his successor, and also by Wagner, Bizet, and Debussy. The main feature of his style was the eclecticism, the incorporation and assimilation of various languages and resources in his profession. Many of the musical concepts, as well as the connection between music and the stage, were the harbinger of what would rule in film music a few decades later. Puccini tooks from the French opera, under the influence of Bizet and Massenet, the taste for the exotic and historical location of his operas. In the case of Turandot, set in ancient China, the opera tells the story of the cruel princess Turandot who, in revenge for a sullied ancestor, beheads her suitors if three riddles are not answered. An unknown prince –Calaf– postulates by answering her three enigmas and challenging her to be the one to find out her name. Turandot orders that no one sleep in Peking until the name of the prince is known, Calaf, who has issued the challenge that if his name is not discovered, princess Turandot must marry him. At the beginning of the third act, the prince sings the aria –Nessun Dorma– convinced that the princess's efforts to discover his name will be in vain. Puccini began the composition in January 1921 and in March 1924 he had already completed the opera up to the final duet. However, a few months later he would pass away, leaving unfinished sketches of the end of Turandot. Franco Alfano was commissioned to finish it, premiering it two years later, in 1926. Currently, it is the fourth most performed Puccini opera worldwide, after the well-known trio La Boheme, Tosca and Madama Butterfly.
