Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.771853 Composed by Nicholas de Burgundy. Arranged by Gregory Hamilton. Classical. Octavo. 3 pages. Dr. Gregory Hamilton #3245769. Published by Dr. Gregory Hamilton (A0.771853). Kyrie Nicholas de BurgundyNicholes de BurgundyIn the baptismal records of the Cathredale St. Lazare, Autin (Burgundy) there is mention of a Nicholes de Burgundy born probably early April 1571.Little is know of his early life, or where he received his training. He possibly received his musical tutoring from a former master of the choristersat St. Lazare, as by the evidence of his few surviving works, he was trainedin the Palestrina school. His slim ouvre survives in but one manuscript, theMss.Autin.Res. 127.a, presently in the Bibliteque Nationale. There are two surviving masses (untitled) and six motets, one incomplete. This Kyrie is taken from the second of the mass settings, and employs as cantus firmus the chant later to be know as the Missa da Angelus (a nineteenth century moniker). This arrangement approximates theperformance style of Alternatim, used in a number of different waysthroughout Europe at the time. It provides today, an ideal way of forming afruitful liturgical dialogue between the Congregation, Choir and Cantor.Ed. note; some of the texural underlay is conjectural and unclear in the mss.

Rita Arendz #1007146. Published by Rita Arendz (A0.1426449). AMAZING GRACE by John Newton for Brass TrioSailor-turned-Anglican cleric John Newton was known for his diary notes, articles for pamphlets, letters, hymns, and sermons, his most famous being Amazing Grace! His path from rebellious young man to pious man began on March 21, 1748, when he experienced a violent storm at sea, nearly capsized, and cried out, The Lord have mercy on us! which surprised him.   From that date forward, March 21 became a day of remembrance, thanksgiving, fasting, and prayer. After suffering a severe stroke in 1754, he gave up seafaring and moved to London. As a Cleric, his New Year's sermon of 1773 closely resembles the text he wrote in the Onley Hymns, published in 1779.The American folk-like hymn we know as New Britain did not become commonly associated with Newton's text until 1835, when it was published in The Southern Harmony by American William Walker.   By the 1970s, the haunting tune was set to bagpipes.   Since then, it has become the most played tune for Remembrance services, funerals, Celebrations of Life, and memorials. This setting includes 5 verses, of which any of Verses 2, 3, or 4 can be repeated.   Written in the key of Eb Major, it is in a comfortable key, permitting it to be used as an accompaniment to singing and on its own.   The instrumental leads and harmonies differ for each verse.Instrumentation is for British Brass Band instruments of Cornet, Eb Tenor Horn, and Bb Euphonium (TC).    Horn and Bass Clef Euphonium alternates are included.Duration 4:00  11 pagesSound clip generated by NoteperformerMore Arrangements by Rita Arendz:https://www.sheetmusicdirect.com/Search.aspx?query=rita%20arendzhttps://www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/explore?q=rita+arendz&lang=default.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.513354 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Standards,Traditional. Score and parts. 38 pages. Jmsgu3 #124120. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.513354). J. S. Bach: French Suite No. 4 BWV 815 Duration: 11:14 Score: 16 pages. Contents: Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gavotte, Air, Gigue.Johann Sebastian Bach is widely considered one of the greatest composers of all time. He was born in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany in 1685 and is best known for his mastery of the Baroque era of musical composition. One of Bach's most beloved works is the set of French Suites, which he composed in the years between 1722 and 1725. These suites consist of six movements, usually in the forms of allemandes, courantes, sarabandes, gigues, and minuets, which Bach filled with intricate ornamentation. The French Suites were highly influential to later composers, particularly those of the Classical and Romantic periods. Bach's inventiveness in the suites marked a new level of finesse and virtuosity in composition. He also demonstrated his ability to work with preexisting forms and conventions to create a unified and well-crafted whole. The French Suites continue to be performed around the world today, and they remain some of the best-known and most appreciated works.

Piano,Trombone - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548492 Composed by Gruber. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas. Score and part. 3 pages. Jmsgu3 #3387069. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548492). Silent Night with new harmony for the final verse! Score: 2 pg. Part: 1 pg. Silent Night Origins Father Joseph Mohr wrote the lyrics for a new Christmas Carol. He wanted the new carol for his Christmas Eve Mass. With only a couple of hours until the service, He asked organist and schoolteacher Franz Gruber to write a melody and simple accompaniment to go with the lyrics. The result is probably the most famous of all Christmas carols – Silent Night. First Performance Perhaps because the organ was undergoing repairs, or to make sure the accompaniment was easy enough, Mohr asked Gruber to write it for the guitar. Mohr played the guitar, and both Mohr and Gruber gave the world premiere performance at the Christmas Eve Mass in 1818 at St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf in Salzburg. Original Score Eventually, the original score became lost, and consequently, Mohr's name was largely forgotten.  Though the public originally recognized Gruber as the composer, many people over time began rumors that a more famous composer was responsible. Thus, they floated the names of Haydn, Mozart, and even Beethoven. Authorities eventually settled the matter when a manuscript in Mohr’s handwriting turned up in 1820. Consequently, we learn that Mohr wrote the lyrics in 1816, and Gruber composed the melody in 1818. Popularity Nonetheless, Silent Night is still very popular. Singers have performed this song in nearly every genre and in multiple languages. Perhaps the most famous version is the one Bing Crosby crafted. This version is the third best-selling physical single recording in the history of recorded music. This particular recording was released in 1935 and sold at least 30 million copies. Only two songs have ever sold more. Elton John released Candle in the Wind in 1997 and sold 33 million copies. The record for most copies ever sold goes to Bing Crosby. He released White Christmas in 1942 and sold 50 million physical copies.  Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018901 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 27 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6064731. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018901). Programme Notes: It is said that the darkest hour of the night comes just before the dawn. – Thomas Fuller Mornings are powerful and evocative moments. The chorus of birds, one species after another, unite in a wild and genuine polyphony while the dew and mist evaporate upon the rising of the sun, encouraging goosebumps and shivers from an open window, tempered or exhilarated by a cup of coffee. Have you ever actively witnessed the sun’s sultry and intense ascension from the cradle of the horizon? That is what this piece, Aubade, or Dawn Song, is about. An aubade is the twin of a night-time serenade; an aubade is a love song originating amongst the medieval Provençal troubadours, depicting the morning departure between two lovers. An aubade is a song in honor of the slow cosmic percolation of a late summer morning. On a personal level, the composer is reminded of his own experiences camping in Northern Canada as a young man–a simpler and less demanding time. This piece formally begins the series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies–his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!–though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his first symphony; I envisioned, once my piece concludes, his beautiful drawn-out chords presenting themselves–the dawn of his special genius.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Piano Trio,String Ensemble Cello,Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533315 Composed by Jacques Leguerney. 20th Century,Standards. Score and parts. 48 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2343071. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533315). French composer Jacques Leguerney (1906-1997) has been recognized for hisoutstanding oeuvre of songs for voice and piano, mostly composed upon poems of theFrench poets of the Pleiade. After his death, the Leguerney Estate decided to allow thepublication of his instrumental chamber music. These works, many of which werewritten in his early years, are valuable contributions to the French chamber musicrepertoire, representing the 20th century from its early years through World War II.This Trio was composed in 1928, but not performed until December 3, 1932. Therespected French musicians Hortense de Sampigny (violinist) and Jacques Serres(cellist) gave its first and, as far as we know, only performance along withLeguerney’s friend and mentor, Thérèse Cahen, at the piano. The concert includingthis work was organized by the Société Musicale Indépendante at the concert hall ofthe Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. A review, in the Journal des débâts, reads:“We do not know this composer. Judging from his composition, whose variegatedstyle reminds us of [Cesar] Franck, of Maurice Ravel and of Spanish dances, he mustbe quite young.â€The same month as this performance, Leguerney’s father, Marcel Leguerney, died. Atthis point, he interrupted his musical activity in order to take over his father’s businessto support his mother and sister. He was not able to resume musical composition until1940, when the outbreak of the war led him to close the business. This edition is based upon two autograph manuscript sources of the full score, as wellas copyist’s parts for the violin and ‘cello. His first completed sketch as well as hisfinal copy are in the Leguerney archives. The parts, made by a copyist, were obviouslyused for a performance, and contain suggested phrasing, as well as bowings (whichwe have not reproduced). We surmise that the violin and ’cello parts were used for thefirst performance. We also think that Thérèse Cahen must have kept her piano score,as the copyist's score of it was not found with the other parts. We have added rehearsal numbers, and corrected a few notational mistakes in themanuscript. We would like to thank Jean Libermann, cellist, and Marion Larigaudrie, violinist, for their advice in the preparation of this edition.

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1296514 Composed by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Renaissance,Traditional. 21 pages. Jmsgu3 #886692. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1296514). Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck was a Dutch organist and composer who lived from April 1562 to October 16, 1621. He was born and died in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Sweelinck's first published works date from around 1592-94, and he composed various music, including chansons and keyboard music. He was known for his keyboard playing and was a teacher to German composers Samuel Scheidt and Heinrich Scheidemann. Sweelinck's Echo Fantasias are significant for several reasons:Innovative composition: Echo Fantasias were a unique form of composition during Sweelinck's time, blending elements of traditional fantasias with passages dedicated to echo effects. This experimental approach showcased Sweelinck's creativity and willingness to push the boundaries of musical expression. Emphasis on the moment: Unlike Sweelinck's larger fantasias, the construction of Echo Fantasias was less strict, focusing more on the immediate musical experience than the overall design. This emphasis on the moment allowed for greater freedom and spontaneity in the performance of these pieces. Stylistic range: Echo Fantasias encompassed various styles, juxtaposing fantasia-like elements with passages dedicated to echo effects. This stylistic diversity added depth and complexity to Sweelinck's compositions, making them engaging and intriguing for both performers and listeners.

Several of his compositions have survived including vocal, choral and instrumental works. He is best known, perhaps, for several pieces that were included in The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, of which this Fantasia is one.
