It is enchanting to listen to and fun to sing. Regis Bookshar thought that instrumental performers should have the same opportunity that singers have experienced for years, so he has now transcribed, edited and arranged this wonderful composition for a Brass Sextet, consisting of 3 Bb Trumpets, 2 French Horns and 1 Trombone.Since no tempo is indicated and there are no written dynamic or phrase markings in William Byrd's original score, Regis Bookshar has taken the liberty to add them in order to provide direction and life to the piece. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students, and perhaps even some younger students. He died in 1989 with over 1500 songs to his credit. The published version of the song, A Pretty Girl Is Like A Melody, was an excerpt from a longer version used in the Ziegfeld Follies. It was the hit song of the 1919 Follies and became the theme song. It was also used frequently in Miss America pageants prior to 1955. Berlin believed this song was in the top 5 of the hundreds of songs he wrote. The arranger, Bob Coil, is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music, where he studied bass trombone with Betty Glover.
