There are biographical traces to be found in the 376 piano pieces of the collection 'Moods, Impressions and Reminiscences' Op. 41, written in 1892-98: this tells of his love for his pupil Anezka Schulzová in the form of a 'piano diary'. Its four volumes were frequently a source of material for other works, such as the symphonic poem 'In the Evening' Op. 39 (also known as 'A Summer's Evening' and 'At Twilight'), written in 1893. For his second subject in this 'Idyll' Fibich used the minature no. 139, entitled 'Lento', from his collection of piano pieces. The violinst Jan Kubelík played the melody from 1908 onwards with the title 'Poème', and the work is still known today under this title: its easy charm has made it a favourite tune in the classical repertoire. This arrangement is based on the orchestral version from which other material was adapted for the Prelude.

The god reluctantly conceded to the boy's wishes and handed him the reigns. But his inexperience proved fatal, for Phaethon quickly lost control of the immortal steeds and the sun-chariot veered out of control setting the earth ablaze.  Zeus, appalled by the destruction, smote the boy with a thunderbolt, hurling his flaming body into the waters of the River Eridanos. Phaethon's sisters, the Heliades, gathered on the banks and in their mourning were transformed into amber-teared poplar trees. This piece, written for my daughter, Penny, for her 2nd year recital at university, depicts the story of Phaethon, through to his destruction. The second piece, Tears of the Heliad,  written for her degree recital and also published on SMP, finishes the story with the lamenting of the Heliades and their tears eventually turning to drops of golden amber

I composed this piece about couple months ago, about February 2022, with a title of: “Congklak and YoYo� Starting when I was inspired by two popular Indonesian traditional children's games called Congklak and Yo-Yo. Congklak is also known as Mancala in other countries. The history of Congklak game came from a long way- originated from the Middle East to Africa and finally spread to Asia. In Indonesia, the game was at first only played by the young girls from the Javanese nobility families. With the passage of time, Congklak game's popularity grew and was widely played by common people. On the other hand, 'Yo-Yo' is a game using a toy that consists of a circular object and a long piece of string tied into it in such a way that the object can be made to go up and down by manipulating the string. Girls would be playing Congklak together while the boys playing Yo-Yo. I was so drawn to both games because they were both such entertaining games to play amongst friends. So I decided to translate my fascination of the games into my piano composition. After understanding deeper on how to play the game of YoYo, I was inspired to put on ‘ascending and descending notes’ as a way to interpret and emulate the YoYo's up and down movements. To illustrate the game of Congklak, I used ‘staccatos’ and ‘ornaments’ to emulate the sound of seeds moving from one hole to another in a rotating sequence. Moreover, I was able to use different kinds of musical techniques to express different moods. I applied D Major to create an exciting nuance of playing together, and spiced it up with the touch of Javanese Scale which represents the Javanese Gamelan sounds that are usually transcribed into Western notations.
