SKU: A0.1370573

Composed by Adrian Gagiu. 21st Century,Classical,Opera. 312 pages. Adrian Gagiu #954918. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1370573).

Score and parts of a Suite of orchestral excerpts from Hamlet (2017), a neo-romantic opera in 3 acts (libretto by Gene Tyburn, after Shakespeare), ranging between tragedy, irony and nostalgia:
1. Overture (Largo - Allegro assai e con brio) in D minor to Hamlet (2017). Dramatic composition, developing in sonatina form the main leitmotifs and themes of the opera (and the famous Folia theme in the beginning).
2. Intermezzo No. 1 'The Players': humorous and ironic excerpt in B flat major for wind orchestra, accompanying the entrance of the players/actors.
3. Intrada ('The Court'): orchestral march in E flat major, illustrating the entrance of the royal court.
4. 'The Play': orchestral 'melodrama' in B flat major, illustrating in a satirical manner the play within the play and transforming bits by John Stepan Zamecnik for the silent movies of early 20th century.
5. Intermezzo No. 2 'Polonius Chasing Hamlet': a symphonic scherzo in A flat major, illustrating Hamlet as he playfully grabs Polonius' hat and then is chased by him.
6. 'Hamlet's Exile', linking together a postlude in F minor and an interlude in C major for string orchestra: after having accidentally killed Polonius, Hamlet feels sorry for him and then leaves in exile.
7. Introduction to Act 3, in C minor: after having secretly returned from his exile in England, Hamlet arrives in the graveyard near Elsinore.
8. Dead March in C minor: the funeral procession for Ophelia.
9. The final chorus, in D major: after the horrors and crimes and Hamlet fulfilling his duty at his life's price, soothing hope returns.
Total duration 33 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is the Overture.

Opera in three acts. Composed by Sir Michael Tippett. This edition: study score. Downloadable, Study score. Duration 125' 0. Schott Music - Digital #Q6264. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6264).

English â?¢ German.

Music of iron and bronze, appropriate to its Trojan War settingâ??of fanfares and percussion tattoos, but with plangent windows of orchestral and vocal beautyâ??Tippettâ??s second opera is unlike his first in every respect except that of the immediacy and fullness with which it portrays the feelings and predicaments of a variety of characters. We understand the warmth and anxiety of Andromache, the majestic command of Hecuba and the erotic charge that runs through Helenâ??the Trojan women who come together at the start of the third act, and who double as the goddesses among whom Paris has to choose at the end of the first. We understand, too, the varieties of blindness and determination inside the male characters who dominate the central act, set on the Trojan plain. Chief among them are Achilles, singing with the vehemence but also the tenderness of a hero, and the troubled Priam, whose tragedy this essentially is, a tragedy multiplied many times over, because it brings about those of so many others. That central, determining tragedy results from Priamâ??s decision to sacrifice his young son Paris and thereby go against his instincts, a decision he takes to forestall a prophesy that Paris will bring about his death. Everything that takes place thereafter unfolds on this battleground between necessity and desire, a battleground on which there can be no conquerors, only casualties.(Paul Griffiths)

Composed by Hector Berlioz. Arranged by Derrick Thom. Lewis. Instructional,Romantic Period. Score and Parts. 22 pages. Derrick Thom. Lewis #813626. Published by Derrick Thom. Lewis (A0.1217090).

This is a “toccata†for whom? Answer: the celli, basses, bassoons and tuba, for this is a workout for those often under-challenged members. In addition, this a gem of a piece as regards its wonderfully concise construction and simple, satisfying form. It is historically ironic, given Berlioz' wild public image and antipathy to musical authority, that he could produce such a work as this so effortlessly, a product a pure intellect without seeming passion. This could serve as an effective curtain-raiser or a daily exercise in general rehearsal. As many characteristics of the composer as I could manage are to be found in this arrangement, viz. Tbn. on melody, High viola the same, W/w tremolos, Fl./vl. Unison melody, --thereby (hopefully) evoking the Corsair Overture, Harold in Italy, Sym.Fantastique, Nuits d'Éte.

Composed by Aric Noble. Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 10 pages. Aric Noble #5306619. Published by Aric Noble (A0.1025077).

Over the past few years I have become obsessed with Norse Mythology, and I mean real Norse Mythology. I say that with
quotes because in my research I realized that a lot of people tell different stories. This is mainly because back when Christianity was growing,
the Christians saw anything that wasn't Christian as pagan, so they got rid of it all. So that is why Greek, Roman, and Norse religions faded into mythologies, and
all that was left was passed around in folk tales. And also because Marvel tells a very different tale of the mythology than the research I have collected and I want people to know these stories.

Now moving passed the history lesson and into the music. This is interesting for me because this is the biggest original piece
that I've ever made. This is going to be a multimovement piece, and this is the 1st movement, Ginnungagap, the endless void.
This movement describes The Void, and the two lands of Fire(Muspelheim) and Ice(Niflhiem).

Starting with The Void, it describes the blackness, and I use the absence of instruments to give this feeling, but however to give
2 of the other themes to foreshadow it.  It moves into this wild cascading theme for the Niflheim theme to describe the cold cascading environment of the world.

After that it slows into a dark and ominous theme for Muspelheim(Surtr's Destiny). This was an interesting part to make
because in mythology, Surtr, also referred to as Surt,  is the fabled fire giant who destroys Asgard. No one knows where he
comes from, but from the moment of his creation, he knew of his destiny to destroy Asgard so he spent all of his time
forging his sword to burrow into Asgard.  I used a break drum to symbolize a hammer hitting an anvil to forge a sword,
a lingering sound of Surtr's destiny.

After this, I brought both themes together to resemble The Clash of the two worlds to create the Norse universe.

The final theme in this first movement is entitled I am Ymir. In myhtology, Ymir is the father of everything. Created from the
clash, he gave creation to all the gods, humans, giants, elves, and dwarves. This final theme takes Surtr's theme and flips
it to be mo.

Concert Suite. Composed by Hans Werner Henze. This edition: study score. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable, Study score. Duration 20 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q3137. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3137).

Henze also wrote the music of the successful film Die verlorene Ehre der Katharina Blum, co-produced by Volker Schlöndorff and Margarethe von Trotta from the novel by Heinrich Böll: 'Böll's novella is about a young woman whose life is ruined because of the persecution and slander of the German yellow press. The story is set in Cologne and its surroundings and casts a light on Germany in the Seventies: estrangement, destruction of the environment, triumph of the middle classes, use of force by the police. The music comments on these circumstances, rather than describing them. Everything that sounds soft and sentimental refers to Katharina and her friend who is pursued by the police and suspected of being a terrorist. Scenes of violence, traffic chaos and, right in the middle, the carnival of Cologne are subjects of the other pieces.'
