There is a long tradition of arranging piano music for guitar. This edition reverses that tradition. This set of music for piano is based my Twenty Etudes For Guitar. The guitar and the piano are certainly cousins so I believe the essence of works for one instrument can be expressed on the other, in either direction. While these pieces may in fact work as etudes for piano I have purposefully renamed them. Whether or not they work as etudes I will leave up to each individual pianist and piano teacher the extent of their didactic usefulness. Ultimately though all music can be used for study and my wish is these pieces can be used for study and performance. They are relatively brief and ideally played in sets, the number and selections being determined by the performer. Guitarist Neal Fitzpatrick has a B.M. from the Hartt School where he studied with Alan Spriestersbach and his M.M. from The Yale School of Music where he studied with Benjamin Verdery. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.578875). This letter to my grandmother is a recollection of her final years in the 1970s. She suffered from Parkinsons and became very frustrated with the fact that her body simply didn't follow the commands of her brain. But she was always a very polite, gentle and yet determined person - others in this situation might have used swear words, but, when she found herself immobilised, my gran would simply shout Bunny Rabbits!. This would make us laugh and she would laugh along with us. The frustration is represented in the music by the Delians melodic fragment DEFGEDE (in the D Dorian mode) interrupted by the timpani, and eventually other instruments, repeating the frustrated bunny rabbits theme. Finally - following her Christian beliefs, her soul goes up to an afterlife in which she is released from the frustration and the bunny rabbits, who have a final grumble on brass and timpani and give way to an ethereal minor chord with a major sixth, as suggested by the Dorian mode. The sound sample here is an electronic preview. The piece was premiered on 30 January 2016 by the Octava Chamber Orchestra along with various other short movements composed by other members of the Delian Society as part of Delian Suite No 8.

The film chronicles the lives and hardships of students attending the High School of Performing Arts in New York City, from their auditions through to their senior years. The film became and over-night sensation and received several awards and nominations, including two Academy Awards for Best Original Song (Fame) and Best Original Score, as well as a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.The song Fame was written as the film's theme piece by Michael Gore (music) and Dean Pitchford (lyrics). It was performed in the film by Irene Cara. Fame reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 in August 1980. It spent three weeks at number one in the UK and also reached number one in Ireland, the Netherlands and New Zealand. In Australia and Sweden it made it to number three.This arrangement, available for both SSA and SABar choirs, with piano accompaniment, nicely captures the spirit of the young performing arts students determined to achieve fame and, by so doing, make sure that people will always remember their names.

But, it does require the ability for horns 2 and 4 to read in bass clef and play smoothly in that register.

Prelude 7 in Eb Ionian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden   The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Bach and Frederic Chopin, whose works stand as essential repertoire for any student of the piano.  Using Bach’s and Chopin’s examples, my goal was to compose in all twenty-four keys, yet offer my own variation on the progression of key signatures – Bach’s being a pattern of major to parallel minor progressing chromatically through all keys, and Chopin’s a pattern of major to relative minor keys progressing clockwise through the circle of fifths.  In order to expand my harmonic and melodic possibilities, I have included the modal keys rather than only the major and harmonic minor keys, and have chosen to work counterclockwise through the circle of fifths, which is a more natural harmonic progression.  Therefore, all major preludes resolve from one to another V-I, as well as do all the minor preludes.    While there are seven modal scales, I decided to leave out the locrian modes for the following reasons.  First, due to the diminished fifth, the locrian mode cannot be thought of as either major nor minor.  Second, the locrian mode did not have a relative key to pair with, since there were no other keys with the identical characteristic notes.    In creating the key architecture, I determined that there was only one solution to pairing major and relative minor scales based on a shared parent key and characteristic note - ionian/aolian, mixolydian/phrygian and lydian/dorian.  This specific order of modal scales is the only order that would enable composing in all twelve key signatures.  Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.YouTube.

The Cantigas de Santa Maria, or “Canticles of Holy Mary�, is a collection of over 400 poems set to music. The text of the Cantigas is written in the medieval Galician-Portuguese language. The poems were collected during the reign of Alfonso X of Castile El Sabio (1221–1284) and are characterized by the fact that every one of them mentions the Virgin Mary (with over 300 being about miracles) and that every tenth poem in the collection is an actual hymn. Alfonso sent scribes throughout the region to collect these poems and thus it is not only one of the largest collections of monophonic songs from the Middle Ages it is also one of the first mass collections of living culture in history. Though all are attributed to Alfonso, it has been determined that much of the musical notation, scribing, and illumination was completed by artisans of his court.  This arrangement FEATURES Full Score and Individual Parts for one cantiga as Interpreted by the Arranger from the Original Mensural Notation into a performance quality arrangement for SATB recorders. This remarkably colorful part gives great pleasure with its liberation, colorfulness and originality of the Spanish and Cuban musical traditions.  Written in three-part form, this music in particular is notable for its peculiar rhythms and metric comparisons. If in the 1st and last parts I use quite recognizable percussion instruments such as: Triangle, Snare Drum, Castanets, Cymbals, Gong, which indicates more Spanish traditions in classical music, then in the middle part it is mostly Cuban folk music, colored and emphasized by such percussion as: Claves, Cowbell, Bongo and Conga Drums. Undoubtedly, the percussion instruments in this part of my transcription are a very recognizable element, but not the only one that can be determined with careful listening.

This arrangement of the familiar old hymn tune is in tablature form and is intended for the advancing beginner or intermediate level guitar player with a solid knowledge of basic guitar chords. It is best attempted with a finger style but could just as easily be performed with a flat pick. The tab is intentionally simplified to provide a basic roadmap for the player by including only the melody notes and chords.  The player is encouraged to embellish the main melody by picking additional strings within the structure of the chord in a rhythmic fashion to create his/her own unique arrangement. The arrangement is tabbed in four different guitar friendly keys-Key of A, key of D, key of G and key of C.  By playing the tablature from start to finish, each key progresses naturally from one page to the other, making for a fun and interesting arrangement that is perfect for preludes and offertories where an exact stopping point cannot always be determined. Other than the fact that Sousa’s “thunderer” was undoubtedly a Mason, his identity may never be revealed. “The Thunderer” march was dedicated to Columbia Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar, of Washington, D.C., and it was composed on the occasion of the Twenty-fourth Triennial Conclave of the Grand Encampment. The conclave was held in October 1889 and was sponsored by Columbia Commandery No. 2. Sousa had been “knighted” in that organization three years earlier.“The Thunderer” was Mrs. John Philip Sousa’s favorite march. This was revealed by their daughter Helen, who also surmised that the “thunderer” might have been her father’s salute to the London Times, which was known as “the thunderer.” It has since been determined that Sousa probably had no association with the newspaper at that time, however. The “thunderer” might have been one of the men in charge of making arrangements for the 1889 conclave–in particular, Myron M. From music notes to words: Indlovu the Elephant, an old bull, is walking alone in the Bushveld, having lost not only his herd, but also an ivory tooth. Today, like many other days, he is haunted by the unpleasant memories of his encounters with humans, when he had to escape the burning feeling of being hit by one of their bullets. He vividly remembers the scent of a hunter who once hurt his left hind leg and knowing that he could recognize this scent anytime, he is determined to take revenge whenever his attacker decides to return to the Bushveld. He interrupts his walk to destroy a cluster of fever trees and for a while, he feels like a young elephant again, full of energy and spirit; the pride of his herd. As the sun sets on the African horizon, he continues his lonesome journey through the fields, hoping that tomorrow will be a better day..
