It is dedicated to organist Angela Kraft Cross. She visited Vilnius and played the organ at Vinius University St John's church last year.Although this Gradual is written in the 7th mode, to make it more colorful, I often changed and transposed the mode throughout the piece.It's a free paraphrase of Gregorian chant. Fifty human beings died and another 53 were injured, many critically, in the shooting. I was moved to create a setting of this powerful text in memoriam of the Pulse victims. The protracted rests in the piece are meant to be moments of silence for the victims of this tragedy.
