Large Ensemble Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.978431 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Sandstone Music. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 252 pages. Sandstone Music #6057715. Published by Sandstone Music (A0.978431). This newly edited version of Elgar's 'Sea Pictures' matches up our piano vocal score with a new conductor score and orchestra parts. Previous versions of this work by other publishers are traditionally littered with mistakes and wrong notes / instructions, which have been fixed in this edition, including the addition of rehearsal marks which correspond across the piano vocal and conductor scores and orchestra parts. Elgar's 1899 work is a song cycle consisting of five songs: Sea Slumber Song, In Haven (Capri), Sabbath Morning at Sea, Where Corals Lie and The Swimmer. It has become one of the most popular works for contraltos and mezzo-sopranos and is frequently a major study work at conservatoires and universities. In the piano vocal score (available elsewhere on this website), the piano part has been adjusted to more closely resemble the orchestral parts. Please note, this set features the keys which Sea Pictures are traditionally performed in, suitable for mezzo-soprano / contralto, as Elgar adjusted them for contralto Dame Clara Butt for the premiere. We also publish this score in his original higher keys for soprano elsewhere on this site.

Published by Lior Navok Music (A0.976039). QUARTET FOR FLUTE, CLARINET, BASSOON AND HARP (1994) Set of PartsDURATION: 27 minutes MOVEMENTS: 4 movements INSTRUMENTATION: Flute/Piccolo; Clarinet; Bassoon; Harp PROGRAM NOTES: The composer writes about his work: The Quartet for flute, clarinet bassoon and harp is influenced by impressionistic French music and Jazz, which was my main influence at the time. The first movement starts with a pastoral character, somewhat naive, but soon starts to raise some concerned thoughts, and so, ends dark. The second movement is a light flowing movement built on pentatonic scale theme. A Bassoon cadenza bridges between the second and the third movement, which is a long Passacaglia with lamento character. In the last movement, piccolo is used instead of flute. This movement opens with a fugue between the four instruments, which leads to a lyrical second theme followed by harp solo and ends with a Grand Finale. He's lived it every day of his life. And you hear it in every note of his Americana Symphony. For the majority of his solo career, O'Connor has dedicated himself to composing for orchestra: he has written six full-length concertos, several orchestral suites and string orchestra compositions, and most recently his first Symphony.David Wallace, Juilliard School faculty member and Senior Teaching Artist with the New York Philharmonic, comments on the overall characteristics of O'Connor's music: The Americana Symphony combines historical narrative with classical and folk variation principles. The Symphony contains instrumental virtuosity, rhythmic drive, poignant lyricism, and probing counterpoint. With the Americana Symphony, Mark O'Connor provides his answer to a question that has intrigued U. These 'Church Sonatas' were originally intended for performance in church by two violins with the organ as 'basso continuo' reinforced by the bass viol. These types of work are sometimes known as 'Trio Sonatas' but, because there normally are two people playing the continuo part, there are usually four players in all.The seventh sonata has three movements, with the tempo markings Allegro, Grave, and Allegro.

A few years later it was recorded for Warner Bros. The recording featured the Concordia Orchestra with Marin Alsop conducting and the composer as violin soloist. The recording was named by the BMG Classical Catalog as one of the top ten classical recordings of 1995. The composition was reviewed by a distinguished panel of composers and was awarded a Meet The Composer grant for another original concerto by O’Connor. Beginning with the premiers in 1993, and including the subsequent performances into 1999, the year of this publication, The FIDDLE CONCERTO has received more performances with orchestra than any other violin concerto composed in the last 50 years. She married Frederick Sherman Olson in 1910, and thereafter used his last name as her own. After her marriage, she retired from composition, and her compositions were unknown to her remaining family by the 1970s until reporters contacted them. The dedication in the original piano composition reads: Dedicated to the real Live Wire Maurice A. Harmony (string parts – violin and string orchestra) MO168C-GString Parts (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor39 pages - 12:00 minutes in length Harmony Musicians For Harmony, an organization founded in response to the tragic events of 9/11, asked me to compose a chamber orchestra piece for their September 11, 2006 concert in New York City . I have composed Harmony for this remembrance concert. What I wished to do in composing this music was to reveal a more Middle Eastern tonality to my style which is derived from American folk fiddle music. As I become more and more familiar with American music in my own musical journey, I also learn that the music I like so much has many layers. It exposes mystery in its origins when one cares to peel back these layers. It is likely these Middle Eastern cultures play more of a role in American fiddling (and American music in general) than previously thought. In Harmony I use descriptive phrases printed in the score to indicate the temperament and journey of the music. Reaching Out begins the piece with its inviting and inquisitive drones. Throughout the piece there are several interpretations of the material with canonic and fugal writing. The music of Harmony is based on the same material constructed in a slow tempo in the beginning, a moderate tempo in the middle of the piece, and a fast fiddling tempo near the end. With hope in heart and music, I contribute Harmony on this painful day of remembrance. Original music printed from the composer’s manuscripts.Music editing, copying and engraving by Mark O’Connorusing Finale on Apple Macintosh 2006 Composed by Mark O’ConnorCommissioned by Musicians For HarmonyFor the 5th Anniversary Concert for Peace 2006Merkin Hall, New York, NY – September 11th, 2006 Catalogue Number MO168C-GCopyright © 2006 by Mark O’Connor Music International For more information on violinist and composer Mark O'Connor, O’Connor String Camps, Touring Ensembles, Discography, Bio, Repertoire and more, please visitwww.markoconnor.com For information on the O’Connor Method – instructional book series for violin, viola, cello and school string orchestra programs:www.oconnormethod.com
