Movin’ Thru is a fun, jazzy, bluessy shuffle tune; which is based on the 12 bar B-flat blues form. Movin' Thru could be a fun concert opener or closer! Depending on how many solos are taken the duration of this piece will vary. This piece is enjoyable for beginners as well as experience musicians. Beginners are encourage to just improvise off of the melody as well as the concert B-flat scale.
This piece focuses on unison playing and a bit of rhythmic independence. At the beginning, player II – does not need to play the rhythm exactly, but should focus on creating a round and strong sound! The director may choose to add piano tremolo’s, cymbal rolls or anything else during the �rst measure! Bars 12 and 13 need to be rhythmically accurate, chiefly for part I and part II. If part II are trumpet players they need to make sure that they take-out their harmon mute for those bars as it will give an extra punch! Beginner level arrangement of this popular Christmas/wintertime song.  Written for right hand only, this piece begins with the hand in A minor position.  It has one position change when preparing for the run, and the run includes a typical '1 crosses under the 3' change, as well as two accidentals.  Then the hand position returns to A minor for the return to the first theme to end the piece.  This piece is easily learned by students at the beginner level.  I have two more arrangements, both in A minor, one at the late elementary level and one at the intermediate level.  Students recognize the eighth note run, as it's the same for each arrangement, and this is very motivating and reassuring to them.  My students enjoy 'collecting' these arrangements as they advance, as the holiday season rolls around again and they are ready to learn the next arrangement.

Looking for a way to for your handbell choir to include praise music? Good, Good Father (Brown, Barrett), a comforting text about God's goodness, is arranged for 3-5 octaves of handbells. Rhythmic vitality comes for a feeling of 6/8 in the midst of the 3/4 writing. This can be taught to ringers by drilling the bass clef rhythm in measures 35-40 with the I want to be in America rhythm from Westside Story. Although there are no bell changes in this arrangement, interest for the ringers and listeners comes from the variety of techniques including martellato, thumb damps, swings, and mallet work (on the table, suspended, and rolls!). Set a in a key that is comfortable for congregational singing, this arrangement works well with an optional acoustic guitar, bass, and cajon (box drum).
