Violin Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.992461 Composed by Eric Watson. 20th Century,Contemporary. 6 pages. Eric Watson #3505615. Published by Eric Watson (A0.992461). The title Toccata comes from the Italian word toccare meaning to touch and generally implies a composition that has many fast notes featuring technical and virtuosic playing requiring great finger facility. The subtitle though is Eccentric Dance and as I wrote it I had in mind the Tarantella dance originating from the province of Taranto, Italy. This dance has two aspects, a stately court dance, which you can hear in the middle section of the work and a more frenetic, agitated movement which is heard in the first and final section. This supposedly originates from the jerky, hysterical and spasmodic body actions of a victim bitten by the wolf or tarantula spider common to that region of Italy. The ‘whirling, delirium’ tarantella dance is most often written in 6/8 and is played faster and faster and ends only when one of the dancers gives up in exhaustion! Toccata was written as a test pice for the Singapore National Piano and Violin Competition, 2017, and is 5.00 minutes in length.

Piano - intermediate to difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q53312 Tarantella Napoletana. Composed by Franz Liszt. Edited by Robert Schafer and Wilhelm Ohmen. This edition: Sheet music. (c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. 11 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53312. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53312). Franz Liszt’s first publications with Schott in 1838 were his piano transcriptions of the song cycle ‘Soirées musicales’ by Gioacchino Rossini. The ninth of these, ‘La Danza. Tarantella Napoletana’ (plate numbers 4967-9) is still very popular with virtuosos today. Later, in 1855, 1858 and 1883, amongst other works, Liszt’s three volumes ‘Années de pèlerinage’ (‘Years of Pilgrimage’), probably his most important collection of character pieces for piano, were also published by Schott.

Violin and piano - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q20941 Composed by Martin Meliton Pablo de Sarasate y Navascuez. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 43. Schott Music - Digital #Q20941. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20941). Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908), undoubtedly, is one of the most important and most successful violin virtuosos of the second half of the 19th century and has become immortal through his virtuoso and highly expressive bravura pieces in the world of violin playing. His concert programme mostly consisted of his own compositions, even if quite a few works had been dedicated to him by fellow composers and tailor-made for him: for example, 'Symphonie espagnole' by Lalo, 'Scottish Fantasia' by Bruch and violin works by Saint-Saëns and Wieniawski. In 1899 Sarasate composed one of his most popular, non-Spanish pieces, 'Introduction & Tarantella' Op. 43, which was published in the following year, even in a version with orchestra accompaniment. The tarantella, a folk dance in 6/8 metre, comes from southern Italy and has developed from dance tunes played in Apulia for people suffering from tarantism. According to popular belief, the bite of a tarantula caused tarantism which was supposed to be cured by wild dancing. Go and try if Sarasate's salon piece really has medicinal properties!

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323673 Composed by P. I. Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Diego Marani. Classical,Folk,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. 15 pages. Diego Marani #911858. Published by Diego Marani (A0.1323673). In 1882, Tchaikovsky considered creating a concert suite out of numbers from his marvelous ballet Swan Lake, which he had composed six years previously. However, he seems not to have made a final decision, and the authorship of the concert suite published after his death as Op.20a is unknown. In this arrangement for string quartet  we have the very famous seventh number of the suite: Neapolitan Dance (Danse Napolitaine). It is suitable for any occasion: repertorie, classroom, recital and for an amazing encore  with the characteristic tarantella rhythm.

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano - Digital Download SKU: A0.869341 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. Contemporary. Score and parts. 6 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #32741. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869341). YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/user/thomasoboelee/videosWhen the Reed sisters, Elizabeth & Lydia, asked me to write a new work for two pianos, I wasn't quite sure where or how to begin. Then I came upon a book on numerology by Annemarie Schimmel, The Mystery of Numbers. In it I discovered a lot of fascinating things, mystical and magical, associated with each number from one to 10,000. Since I would be writing a piece for a duo, double digits would do the trick. Number 22 stood out. It has two important associations: the Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters, and there are 22 major arcana cards or allegories of the Tarot. Perfect! I could write 22 pieces, each a musical rendering of a card.  And, coincidentally, this work will opus 66.For pictorial inspiration, I bought a Pierpont Morgan Library copy of the Visconti-Sforza Tarot Cards from 15th century Italy. For musical inspiration, I listened to the wonderful salon music of the Polish composer Frederic Chopin, the American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and the Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth. The 22 pieces in the Visconti-Sforza Tarot Cards are: Zero Il Matto The Fool entertains the gathered guests with a tarantella. I. Il Saltimbanco The Mountebank shuffles his cards and does a samba. II. La Papessa The High Priestess concocts a magic potion. III. L'Imperatrice The Empress dances all night. IV. L'Imperatore The Emperor promenades into the Great Hall and inspects the courtiers. V. Il Papa The Pope makes a proclamation that all sinners will be pardoned. VI. L'Amore Love in a tropical paradise. VII. Il Carro Triumphant in battle, the gladiators ride into town on chariots. VIII. La Giustizia Justice is swift and unrelenting. IX. Il Vecchio The Old Man reminisces. X. La Ruota della Fortuna Fortunes rise and fall unpredictably. XI. La Fortezza Strength and fortitude will prevail. XII. Il Penduto Lamentation for the Hanged Man. XIII. Il Morte Death lurks around the corner. XIV. La Temperanza Temperance in A major. XV. Il Diavolo The Devil seduces with his charm and wit. XVI. La Torre The tower topples and crashes onto the populace gathered below. XVII. La Stella Twinkle, twinkle, little star ... XVIII. La Luna Minuet for moonstruck lovers. XIX Il Sole Sunshine, margaritas and salsa cubana. XX Il Giudizio On the Day of Judgment, the angels blow their trumpets ... XXI. Il Mondo The world would be a happier place if we all dance together. Performance option: Shuffle the 22 allegory cards from the Tarot deck to determine the order of performance.
