Additionally, the movements can be presented in any order, although the most common order is indicated in the score. FLEXIBLE INSTRUMENTATION: The Galvitone are tuned pipes Clocks created for their ensemble. A combination of glockenspiel and crotales can be used in place of this instrument. The Aquarion is a glass marimba built for this piece. Another instrument, such as the MalletKAT, keyboard, or combination of marimba and vibraphone can be used in instead. Of Make and Movement was commissioned by the Clocks in Motion percussion quartet. This is the first percussion quartet I wrote for them as their resident Clock Shop composer. Growing up surrounded by many  antique clocks in my childhood home, I was inspired to create a piece that, for me, encapsulates some of the ways these clocks show the passing of time: the swinging of a pendulum, aging crystals in a quartz clock, and how the continuous movement of the hands could represent how we are in this continuous dance with time.

Backing vocal parts have been included in this arrangement along with a violin part (which is also doubled on clarinet), as featured in the PMJ recording. The original description is as follows: Cordolium, meaning heartfelt grief; sorrow of the heart, heartache. I wrote this piece with one of my favorite pieces in mind: Barber's Adagio for Strings. I wanted to challenge myself to convey emotion like Barber did, and to write a piece with a lot of emotional potential. Cordolium travels through the stages of grief, allowing the musicans to express denial, agitation, and depression, before it concludes with a dejected acceptance of all the sorrow that came before. I realized the original is too long especially for advanced HS groups so I decided to create this cut version to accomodate. This shortened version forced me to cut some transitions and some beautiful sections out, but it still contains the main motifs and allows all the expression in a shorter time. Over the past couple of years I have written a number of film music transcriptions on and for the organ of the Royal Albert Hall in London. While the transcriptions are written with this organ in mind, often calling for specific colours such as the bass drum, carillons or tubular bells, they are adaptable on a number of different instruments and I’ve loved tweaking them in order to play them on organs all across the world. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them! One of the soundtracks that I get asked to perform most regularly is Test Drive by John Powell. This is one of the earlier transcriptions I wrote, and I often use it as a piece to illustrate the difference between different organs. It’s quite useful to have one piece to use as a comparison point, so I post little videos of this wherever I’m playing to demonstrate how radically different the same piece of music can sound depending on the kind of instrument. For me, this piece feels like an instant serotonin boost. There is a great crescendo where you get to take the organ from relatively quiet to earth-shatteringly loud over the course of about 30 seconds, and I always say that playing that part feels a bit like flying a dragon! - Anna Lapwood
