Handbell,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1076420 Composed by H. A. Cesar Malan and Johann C. Schwedler. Arranged by Mark R Lewis. Praise & Worship,Sacred. 4 pages. Mark R Lewis #680576. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1076420). Ask Ye What Great Thing I Know was written around the turn of the 17th to 18th centuries by Johann Christoph Schwedler. The tune most often used with this text, Hendon, was written by H. A. Cesar Malan almost 100 years later. This lovely arrangement by Mark Lewis for 8-Bell handbell duet utilizes the last line of text as a recurring varied refrain and explores the melody of the verses in various rhythmic permutations. While the rhythms are at times complex, this arrangement should be playable by most intermediate handbell players. Range: G5 - G6 (also available C6-C7).

When Johnny Burke added these lyrics to a 1938 instrumental tune by jazz bassist Bob Haggart, the casual conversation between two former lovers became a hit song recorded by Bing Crosby, Benny Goodman and, most recently, Linda Ronstadt. This suavely elegant arrangement for string orchestra includes the full score and all five parts.
