Twenty-three sacred hymns and songs From the Foreword:

Recent years have seen much increase in the activities of small and medium sized instrumental ensembles in schools at all grade levels, generally as an adjunct of band and orchestral programs. Many churches and Sunday Schools also use ensembles of various types in programs and services. Such groups are looking for playable music that is also interesting and worthwhile.

This collection contains settings of sacred hymns and songs, and other selections, all of which should be usable in the church and the school. The hymn and song treatments are not just instrumentations of standard hymnal type, but are complete arrangements, using such devices as introductions, bridges, reharmonizations in present day idioms, rhythmic variety, countermelodies, etc.

All selections have been scored for a six (or five) part brass ensemble with the following part books available: (preferred instruments are listed before the parenthetical substitution possibilities)

Part 1: C Instruments (Violin, Oboe, Flute); 1st Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet)
Part 2: 2nd Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet)
Part 3: 3rd Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet); F Horn (English Horn); Eb Horn (Alto Saxophone, Eb Alto Clarinet)
Part 4: Baritone treble clef (Tenor Saxophone, Bass Clarinet); Trombone (Baritone bass clef, Bassoon, Cello)
Part 5: Baritone bass clef (Trombone, Bassoon, Cello)
Part 6: Tuba or Sousaphone (Bassoon or Cello with occasional lower range limits, String Bass 8vb)

While hoping to keep the selections interesting and worthwhile for experienced players, they have generally been restricted to a medium level of difficulty (or Grade III as defined by the Instrumentalist Magazine). Extremes of range and key signature have been avoided, lead parts have ample time to rest and catch their breath and technical demands are usually modest. Selections which could have been expanded to larger proportions (such as A Mighty Fortress) have been held to a modest length, in order to give younger musicians a better chance to play them successfully. Footnotes in the conductor's score indicate how the longer medleys can be abbreviated, if that is desirable.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Instrumental Duet,Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1150619

Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Pietro Prugna. Classical,Film/TV,Romantic Period,Traditional. Score and parts. 17 pages. Pietro Prugna #750794. Published by Pietro Prugna (A0.1150619).

This heart wrenching piece by Chopin was originally written for solo piano. In this arrangement, the melody is played by Violin I. Violin II provides harmonisation to the melody. Piano accompaniment is from the original piece. However, it is played with 2 hands, instead of the left hand only. This is easier for beginners. There are some parts with optional octave higher for the Violins. It is technically challenging on the violin and can be enjoyed without playing 1 octave higher also. The F# after those parts are only if the octave higher option is chosen. I'll Second This is a series of arrangements where Violin II is added to harmonise the melody. The arrangements can be played without Violin II; with just melody and accompaniment. The pdf contains Full Score and Set of Parts (Violin I, Violin II, Piano).

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.808712

Composed by F. Leslie Smith. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Children. Score and parts. 37 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #6656487. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808712).

Gremlins, trolls and hobgoblins. All are imaginary or supernatural, products of folklore. The first is a mischievous elf. The second, a product of Scandinavian imaginations, is a rather unattractive dwarf (or maybe a giant) that dwells in caves or on mountains. The third is a small, hirsute and naughty household spirit. In other words, these are just the types of beings that show up on your doorstep on October 31 evenings threatening to play tricks unless you provide treats.
This composition exemplifies not only these creatures, but also the witches, skeletons, ghosts, vampires, black cats and other scary beings that populate Halloween. Written in the key of C minor with a 6/8 time signature, it rolls along at a suggested tempo of 96 BPM. Based primarily on the traditional melody, The Hearse Song (the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out), it also quotes the composer’s own The Eerie Night and Chopin’s Marche Funèbre. And like the worms of the song, the melodies work their way sinuously in and out among the five instruments. Most notes are well within normal playing range: Trumpet 1’s highest is five A notes above its staff; Tuba’s lowest, G below the staff. There are no tricky rhythmic figures. It’s just a fun piece for Halloween . . . or any time of the year.
Completed in 2021, performance time for Gremlins, Trolls and Hobgoblins runs about 3 minutes, 33 seconds. The composer, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would also like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. Contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.)

Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Historic,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 7 pages. Jmsgu3 #1053655. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1476129).

Chopin's Prelude in B minor, Op. 28 No. 6, is significant for its sad and expressive nature, often described as reflecting pure sadness and depression. This Prelude is renowned for its cello-like left-hand melody, evoking the rich tones of a cello and creating a somber atmosphere. The piece is known for its duality of voices, with the right hand providing an echo effect that should be skillfully managed to avoid monotony. George Sand described this prelude as plunging the soul into frightful depression, emphasizing its emotional depth. This intro was played at Chopin's funeral, adding to its historical and emotional significance. The left hand in this prelude carries the melody, resembling the full tones of a cello, while the right-hand plays an accompaniment with repeated upper notes that are integral to the piece. Overall, Chopin's Prelude in B minor, Op. 28 No. 6, stands out for its emotional depth, melancholy melody, and unique cello-like qualities.

By Grant Horsley. By Grant Horsley. Arranged by Grant Horsley. Classical,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Romantic Period,Wedding. 19 pages. Grant Horsley #848664. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1255071).

The name Nocturne (meaning of the night) was originally an ensemble piece in the 18th century in several movements used for for evening parties. Later In the 19thc it's one movement form, it was adopted by John Field and later popularised by Chopin. It generally has a tranquil lyrical melody and is very romantic and expressive.

I have tried to keep these elements in this Nocturne. Written here for Flute, Bassoon and Piano, the instrumental parts are equally divided. Highest note top E flute 1 (once)- Bassoon G. It is written in the key of A minor it has a very gentle opening with harmonies evolving around a cycle of 5th's in places. The piece has three definite sections- the lyrical melody to begin with, a middle section building to a climax before a return to the 1st section. This is followed by a transitional contrasting section (poco piu mosso) wandering through a few keys to settle on an inner pedal tonic note chime. Gentle chords restore the opening once more- this opening theme climaxes towards the end and a gentle reflection of the opening bars concludes the piece.

It is 4 mins 20 in length and price is for the full score and all parts.

Set at intermediate level, but the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.

Versions for Flute Duet, Flute and Clarinet Duet, Violin Duet and Solo Piano are also available.
